It is a craving mostly inspired by Gate jietai manga and fueled by various fanfictions I managed to dig up. I remeber one particular about SG1 crossower with forgotten realms and reactions of natives towards guns. Anyone can suggest something in this flavor? bigrazz

Zipang
Sengoku Jieitai
Jin
Trigun

Sort of
Paladin
Pumpkin Scissors
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Thermae Romae (I suggest the movie instead though)

No manga, but anime or novel
Scrapped Princess (Only in anime and novel, not manga...)
Gargantia
Gun x Sword

I realise none of these are quite what you're looking for... I'd be very interested in hearing and good recs for this type of manga too, particularly the civilisation clash type of thing like Gate. Should be generally related though. Hope you like one or two of them.

Ok so far.

Already Seen:
-Maou yuusha and another one with daughter of demonking (Similar theme mc thrust into life as ordinary salaryman)
-Zipang
-Sengoku Jietai
-Pumpkin Scissors (PTSD main char was kinda nice break from extremes of mcs)
-Trigun (One of the first ones in my career)
-Jin and another one in similiar theme but more oriented towards cooking.
-Gargantia (bsod like plot twist in later chapters)
-Drifters (Up to date so far but artist is known for his on/off updating of stories, same guy who did Hellsing)

Interested:
-Paladin
-Scrapped Princess (kinda old school anime look)

Abandoned:
-Thermae Romae
- GunxSword (mecha not really my climate)

All in all. Got two new ones for my library and if I am lucky there might be some more. Cheers.

The one about cooking is probably Nobunaga no Chef

If you don't mind this type of manga where a single character goes to technologically backward world, usually through time-travel, and use his modern knowledge, you can check :

Amakusa 1637
Little Jumper
Ryuurouden
Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori

They aren't as good in describing the cultural/technological shock though as Gate.

If you want something much more similar to Gate, and usually much better told, you're better off turning to western Science-Fiction/Fantasy literature.

Here are a few examples :

Heroes Die - The Acts of Caine series by Matthew Woodring Stover
Great series. Very gritty and violent so not for the faint of heart. A world similar to ours but with a bit more advanced technology has discovered a way to travel to parallel worlds. They then send "actors" disguised as inhabitants there to give some violent and exciting entertainment to the masses.

March Upcountry - Empire of Man series by John Ringo.
The heir to humanity's empire in the future is stranded on an alien world with his bodyguards (in power armor). This world has no technology to speak of, and is full of wild nasty creatures in a jungle-like environment.

Hell's Gate - Multiverse series by David Weber (more famous for his Honor Harrington SF series)
2 civilizations one based on science/technology, the other based on magic have a first contact that ends up in a massive war.

Into the Storm - Destroyermen series by Taylor Anderson
An american destroyer from WW II is transported to a fantasy/alien world, but it's not alone, japanese battleships chasing it are there too. Good read if you like military science-fiction.

Triumph of the Darksword - The Darksword Trilogy by Margaret Weis
This is the final book in the trilogy. It's kind of a spoiler but a futuristic world (think tanks, laser weapons, aircarft, spaceships) invades the fantasy world that's the setting of the series.

Witch World - Witch World Series by Andre Norton
The protagonist is transported to a fantasy world where the antagonist use modern/futuristic technology to battle the inhabitants who use magic. I didn't like the series so much, it's kind of too old school for my tastes but you might like it.

1632 - 1632 Universe series by Eric Flint (a lot of books, 50+)
A small american town from our time is sent back to the 17th century in Germany.

The Doomfarers of Coramonde - Coramonde series by Brian Daley.
American GIs from the Vietnam war are transported to a fantasy world. Haven't read it yet, but it fits what you want.

There's a lot more of course but I tried to limit myself to the ones most similar to Gate.
