I registered to ask this since I am still kinda confuse.

My question is, when a manga get's licence that means that the current scanlation site or supporters must remove the manga's downloads from their site? and if so, what if you don't and what's the point since we can get manga scans from torrents or other sites that still have them in their http...

Anyways any reponse will help.

Thanks

well to the best of my knowledge
they dont "have" to stop scanslating the series
its just an unofficial ethical code, to leave it alone now that its available over here and the mangaka can get paid for it now

that "code" is one reason the manga publishing companys dont crack down on scanslationors is b/c manga isnt a huge market now outside japan and, unlike movies and music, it is usually only scanslated in a language where it is currently unavailable, not just for the sake of piracy

oh I see, so basically there is no point in translating on that language since it's already available in stores and such.

See this is something I was confuse but I am starting to see more things clear. thanks a lot for the reply smile

Actually, a lot of the time, scanlations are so that others can read it for FREE.
Another reason would be since the US versions are usually at least a year behind the Japanese stuff. People don't like waiting for a year to read the current stuff, so hence scanlations.

As for dropping a project once in becomes licensed, again, people like to read the NEWEST stuff out and not wait and buy it. Other times, the publishers WILL contact the scanlation group and ask them to stop. It's called a cease and desist. Same thing happens with fansubs

I am sure publishers will not contact small manga titles but god example will be bleach and naruto since those pretty much exploded.
