I have a hard time telling the difference between yaoi and yuri some times. Seriously, in yuri its two girls gettin freaky, in yaoi its two guys that look like girls(though ones obviously an emotionless robot).
Generally, I don't read either, for they are both just, for the most part, mutations of shojou romance. Yuri=shojou with 2 girls, yaoi=shojou with 2 guys. Every other cliche is intact

My theory is that it's for all the girls who are annoyed by the heroines of het romances. This way it's double bishies and no distractions! And no, I don't read yaoi. bigrazz

Exactly, Bishies are the only way a girl can say finally! And i have to also say the whole, bishie x bishie theme is usually soo intense. The story-lines have gotten so good, sometimes if they didn't have some scenes people could confuse them with shonen which is a plus ^_^

Yaoi Fangirls are attempting to take over the planet, this is just the first step:
1) Read Yaoi
2) Force Yaoi onto others
3) ? ? ? ?
4) Domination!

Actually, it's:

1. Read yaoi
2. confused?
3. PROFIT!

Yaoi is yaoi. Its delicious and sometimes angstlicious and all around fun times. Its awesome. Its ridiculous. Its serious business. Its sparkle. Its inappropriate use of everyday objects. Its emotional. Its straightforward. Its twists. I could go on all day, sweetness. Its just yaoi.

yes i suffer from yaoi-syndrome and it's something addicting so it's no surprise the majority of the mangas here are yaoi [i think]??

The fact is that yaoi is the only manga porn genre that's directed 100% ar girls. Which mean i don't have too look at steriotypic girls with gigantic boobs and no brain. And yuri for my part just seems boring,
I'm really picky when i choose a yaoi to read though, and many of the ones that has high rating makes me wonder if story/art(most yaoi REALLY have terrible art) even matter to the fangirls. So i kinda get that you can get surpriced by the amount og yaoi with high ratings. wink

But there's nothing better than a good yaoi manga. xD

Calling yaoi porn is very unfair. The vast majority of them are not explicit at all, nothing compared to hentai/yuri. Many of them are only similar to shoujo smut. Smut =/= porn. Only a very small number can be called porn, but the content is still uncomparable to hentai. For a while, I used to read yaoi to find porn but was only disappointed. sad

Yes, the number is large but if you know about them, you could just treat them as another form of fiction.

I think you'll find that Yaoi gets higher ratings because girls tend to be more generous when they rate something. Well, most of them anyway. lol. Personally, when I rate something I try to be a little fair, but sometimes that just doesn't work out.
There's also the possibility that they really are just happily pleased with the standard of yaoi, therefore give it higher ratings. I mean, it's yaoi... There's pretty much no storyline in most of them. All we have to rate is art and sex. XP

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. lol. Not so much with Josei, but especially Shoujo. I used to read Shoujo until I started to get annoyed with the fact that the majority of the female protagonists are annoying, whiny, materialistic and stupid. The male love interests were usually pretty mundane as well. They were either subservient or abusive. Of course, I still love some Shoujo, but the majority of it... Reading it is like rubbing my eyes on rocks. lol.
And all of that isn't to say that Yaoi is fantastic. But it's more enjoyable in comparison, for sure.

That is true.^^
But for my part, I read them for the smut. Other wise i could just read a shoujou manga that has a better story and more realistic romance. When I pick up a yaoi, I do it mostly for the "love" scenes, though i read both graphic and cencored series, and of course the rare ones that have a good story. I mean, a yaoi can easily be hot without being insanely graphic. (Though it helps. xD)

I know some yaoi is like that... but there are quite a lot of stories with deep characters and plots that deal with real issues. And yaoi is most definitely not always 'two guys getting freaky', it's often got conflicts, emotionally messed up characters, and sometimes deals with psychological or social issues (I'm not including the smutty hardcore yaoi. That almost always is just two guys getting it on XD). I know what you mean by the girly guys, for they're bishies! Even I find them adorable. ^^ But that's not always the case with yaoi... just a very often case. And there are some great semes out there who do show emotion, get worried/upset/etc.

But I do believe there is a difference with yaoi/shounen ai and shoujo romance. I can't stand hardly any shoujo romances, but I love yaoi. I think shoujo is much more annoying and the guy-dominating/saving/chasing-weak-girl plot is too typical. As for yuri... well, I feel that yuri has a different feel to it. I can't explain it very well, but it usually has a josei feel to it. I don't read yuri so I may be wrong, but that's what I think.

The reason yaoi seems to be everywhere is simple: Many girls that like manga/anime (not all, but quite a lot) tend to like at least some form of boyxboy, tend to get obsessive and/or addicted, and spread it because they love it so much! I'm kind of included in that group of females, actually. bigrazz Sorry for my rant!
