I really do like Skip Beat, but now that the party arc is over, I can finally hope to get back to the actual point of the manga -- Kyouko's acting skillz and her relationship with Ren.

And I wish that the President would go back to being a vague cameo character. Sure, his antics are amusing, but after a while, you just want to smack him. Same with his granddaughter, I guess.

Oh, and I want more Moko!

yeah skip beat was really different in the beginning, i found it hilarious! But now it seems liek one scene really takes too long being dragged on to the readers annoyance. I skipped a few volumes but it sees i didnt miss much, pretty mush at teh same place, and that is not cool, lol. But i still read it cause its something entertianing even if its a biot long. :3 i love this face

Well... In my opinion: People who don't understand should just shut up. roll eyes
There was quite some progress at that party, but mainly about that little granddaughter of the president.
Also all the approaching of Ren through remenbering of Kyoko's birthday and the rose he gave her. Just sad that she just don't get it, the meaning of all this ....
I just don't understand how people can wish this manga to hell -.- because the drawings are very good; all these intensive expressions; the story as well doesn't let anything open to complain; the situations are just dramatic like it should be; the personalities of the characters is well made.
Okay, at the moment it isn't very romantic, I know, but this will change (I hope).
The only thing that isn't good is that the releases of new chapters take to long -.-

Well I think Skip Beat is a great manga and fully deserving the praise it`s getting.
One of the few that I always reread.
About the romance being slowpaced it is understandable because the main character is someone who gave up on love and is afraid of it.Also if we have to wait a month for a new chapter of course it would seem slow.I have watched a few mangas where in a matter of a few chapters the characters suddenly realise that they are madly in love which always seemed to unnatural for me.
Romance is not the only thing this manga is all about. If it was then it wouldn`t stand out within the sea of shoujo.I love the char. development ,little by little climbing the stairs to stardome and the way the author shows the character emotions.
As for the whole party arc I always thought that the whole thing with Maria and her father neede a closure and so it had.And also Kyoko who never had a real birthday party finaly got one.I think the arc served its purpose.Of course it can get a bit iritating because this is a monthly manga and all and I wanted to see what other trouble is in store for our heroine in her way to fame but its more a matter of perspective.Probably when I reread the manga after a year or two this arc will seem like a enjoyable breeze.
Its also good that the author is not rushing things and going in ones own pace.To much rushing can really mess up a good manga. In the long run you could very well find yourself being gratefull for the author for not disrupting the flow of the manga even if now it pisses you off because its going so slow like many other monthly mangas ... cough Berserk cough...
In short I think the manga has alot more potential in store and could be even better and I`m awaiting to see Kyoko`s ups and downs on her way to fame even if its going to take a while.

Totally agree Maka! We have to judge the manga by the whole content, not just because she took few chapters for a party, or because Ren and Kyoko are taking some time to get there...

The way the mangaka developes their personalities is amazing! At the beginning I thought "this Kyoko is no match for Ren", but everytime I see her working hard to grow stronger and to descover who she really is, without rellying on others, I feel touched and hope she grows strong enough to pair up with him... Mangas where the main chars fall in love for each otherfrom the start are boring, predictable and unrealistic.

While you wait for more chapters, do as the buddy before us said: "go read Tokyo Crazy Paradise". It worths the prize! smile wink grin

I really does seem to drag on. Often I get confused about the whole situations with the characters and their realationships.Tho as of right no I am so lost if I want to know what happens I have to reread the the whole series. I realy liked the begining and how she acted but now the plot is getting a little boring with the extendedness of the series. The developments a little too slow for me but i enjoy it.

I didn't find it that slow, but that's because that read 123 chapters in a chunk. I guess it will seem pretty slow if each new chapter is released monthly. With any manga, that is AGONIZING waiting time. I think I'll stop reading, and then read another chunk of chapters in a year or so.

Otherwise, it's a very good rereadable manga, with very good character development and a very sweet budding romance.

Skip-Beat! is a very funny manga to read. But I do agree that sometimes it drags, however, don't all stories have these lackluster moments? I have great hopes for this now that Kyoko doesn't scream bloody murder every time she encounters Sho... is it wrong to hope for the beginning of the end of this story?... How dense can a character be before she is considered... well, not intelligent? I stand by Skip-Beat!, but I hope the author is thinking how to end this one soon... ;)

I don't think that it will end so soon, because there ist still the quetion - Shou or Ren.
And there is all the complexity about her and Rens feelings. How will all of this influence their career?
Like you can see there is still pretty much to draw / write about.

In my opinion its like someone posted before, its a matter of perspective.... if you are reading the manga one chapter at a time it will obviously seem like it's dragging and add to that the fact that it's a monthly manga so most of us readers want the story to move along already. But to tell you the truth I read the entire thing in one whole chunk and quite honestly if you read it that way you will find that there is hardly a single chapter that is wasted. It's just that the other took her time to develop the personalities of all the characters and their relationships... its currently focused on character development but we all know that Kyoko is starting to feel something for Ren and vice-versa... Anyways my advice to all who feel like this is dragging is: take a year off or two and read it later on in one whole chunk.. I bet that you will find that the manga is not as draggy as it seems and that actually it is well developed and organised.

Yeah I love Skip Beat and where it was going at one point. She's just so different then other main character girls and how she has the hate towards the guy and how Ren is pictured in it. I love the whole thing and how the characters are. It is a little draggy, after 100 or some chapters but oh well I mean it isn't really. They're right from what said before, it's at a perspective. Since you read it one chapter at a time, it'll feel like dragging unless you read it all at once. I for one, am waiting for some chapters to come out then I read it all at once!

Well yeah, Skip Beat is one great manga for me but....gawd, it IS FREAKIN' darn too long....I'm not complaining, I mean, at least, the mangaka knows how to polish character development realistically, but jeez...

One surefire way to know when a manga is now too long and dragging for you is when you skip a few volumes (or even a couple of chapters) and find the same situation, almost as if there's nothing important you've missed.

And sadly, it happened for me at Skip Beat. At this point, I don't care who Kyoko gets to end up with, I just want her debut as an idol to happen already and make it fast.

I disagree with you here tazman0208. I tried the same tactic as you did, read the whole thing at once and find myself slowly getting impatient volume by volume.

Look people, it doesn't need to take 20+ volumes or so to make a good manga. Or develop perfect characterization for that matter. What I fear most is that Skip Beat would turn out something like one of Rumino Takahashi's works, just by length alone.

We haven't even got to the romance part yet, and we're already at volume 20+ or so, at this rate, I predict this manga is going to end at volume 50+ or more. dead
