I was 7. Cable TV wasn't popular back then (I'm old, yes. bigrazz ), but Yu Yu Hakusho was airing on a local TV channel. I was hooked. I rushed after classes and made sure I was home by 6:30pm so I could watch it everyday. When I do miss an episode, I'd have crying fits and be in a bad mood the rest of the night. Hahaha. Oh, to be a kid again... XD

But even years before that I've been watching sentai/tokusatsu shows, like Masked Rider Black and Shaider. biggrin

I was about 5 when I first started watching Sailor Moon because my sister watched it. (sadly I watched the dub...but I couldn't really read subtitles cause i was little lol). My first anime with subtitles was Kodocha I think, or at least the first one I really got into. I think my first manga (besides reading some of the Sailor Moon manga) was probably Kodocha as well.

I remember also that around the time I watched Kodocha I also watched Nurse Angel. Does anybody besides me remember that? (it was subbed). I don't see it too often nowdays and when I watched it again I did realize how childish it was lol (which was probably why I liked it when I was like 6)

I think I was about 9 or 10 when the whole Pokemon craze was going around, so that was my first anime. I didn't really understand much about the anime culture, though.

I didn't get into manga until I was 14, and read Marmalade Boy and Mars. That's what started my addiction. smile

But i got addicted to manganime when i started watching Cardcarptor Sakura & Rurouni Kenshin, that is when i'm 14 yrs old.

Ok, didn't update in a while since I was busy failing my exams but things have evened out a bit. The 11-13 age bracket just creeps ahead but the combined 11-16 groups only hold 42% of the votes now rather than 50+% a few days ago. 5-8 is edging up the side as well.

I'm amazed at how many of you discovered Dragon Ball first. The anime is steaming ahead as the first taster with Sailor Moon and Pokemon not far behind. Gundam and Digimon are next but are trailing way back by comparison.

On the manga scale we have a tie between Fushigi Yuugi, Rurouni Kenshin, Love Hina and Sailor Moon but none are really storming ahead. Keep the posts coming guys and I'll keep updating my lists.

Hm, I'm born 1980 and watched anime from the very start (e.g. Captain Future started airing that very year or early movies like Twelve Months) but didn't knew that it was anime.

The very first anime, where I realized the connection to Japan was Queen Millenia (Shin taketori monogatari: Sen-nen joō) since the setting was in Tokyo and names stayed all Japanese - which aired in 1988 in German TV, closely followed by Saber Rider (Sei Jūshi Bismarck) and Mila Superstar (Attack No. 1). So, I was 8 years at the time I got hooked into anime.
Record of Lodoss War, Bastard!! and 3x3 Eyes were my first fansubs. At that time not via internet but videotape.

As for Manga... hm, really hard to say. Either 3x3 Eyes or Akira (with reading from left to right, of course) during the mid-90ies. So, maybe at the age of 15 or 16 which means I was quite old compared to the kids starting Manga nowadays but those Manga were simply the first to be published in the Western world, so there wasn't anything before...

First online scanlation was Kaori Yuki's Boys next Door. First online anime was Weiss Kreuz, if I remember correct. I got Internet late, around the beginning of 2001 bigrazz

Well, I guess my true first anime was Totoro when I was little (gift from my uncle, who's into anime), but I just thought it was a fun cartoon-movie-thingy. The first time I saw any that I actually had some idea of what it was, was at a summer camp when I was 14-ish, and a bunch of us watched some Cowboy Bebop episodes and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, on our counselor's computer.

I first discovered manga when I was 15, bored during the summer, and looking for something to do...I ended up going to a bookstore and reading manga biggrin My first was Dragonball, followed by DBZ, Hellsing and Rurouni Kenshin.

I never really got into anime much until I started college 3 years ago, since I didn't have very good internet at home....also there were several people on campus who had open network shares with lotsa anime biggrin So, what with fast internet and open network shares, suddenly I discovered a whole new world of crazy awesomeness. Changed my life forever, and I never looked back.....though that first semester...ok, year...my grades kinda plummeted b/c I was watching anime instead of studying....anime overload biggrin Oh well, I got that under control and now I only watch/read anime/manga in my free time.
