Very simple question! What's better, anime or manga? Or maybe they're equal...

Personally though, it depends on the series for me. Shoot me, but I liked the FMA anime more than the manga. But just take a look at Negima, and it's manga all the way!

Question: Select the choice that best represents your feelings
Choices:
Manga > Anime - votes: 4143 (40.7%)
Manga < Anime - votes: 304 (3%)
Manga = Anime - votes: 619 (6.1%)
Depends on the series - votes: 5107 (50.2%)
There were 10173 total votes.
The poll ended: June 21st 2008

I'd say, there are shining exceptions, but there are just vastly more great mangas than great animes.

Depends on the series, there are horrible mangas with excellent animes, great mangas that got butchered animes and mangas just as great as the animes.

there really is no bias answer for this because some animes like Soul Eater, Bamboo Blade, Vampire Knight (I am listing only recent animes) watching the fights in motion is so much better than just looking at still pictures. so i'm gonna have to say that it depends on the genre. the love affiliated stuff is definitely for manga like Love Hina. (although I would love to see My Barbaric Girlfriend animated

It depends on what we're comparing.
If it's general manga vs anime, I would say manga because I prefer to read. I can read at my own pace, I can skip some scenes quicker than others, etc. This can't happen with anime, you're dependent on the director.
When comparing a specific series I would say the original form wins.
This is how I feel.

I haven't read or watched FMA, but I read somewhere that the anime version is a diferent aproach/interpretation of the manga, so I don't think is comparable.

I usually prefer the manga. There are some exceptions like Full Moon wo Sagashite, but they are so few and so far between that I find myself picking up the manga of any anime I like. smile

I agree. i prefer the bleach anime to the manga as there are alot of good fight scenes.
however, when an anime is totally different from the manga i normally like the manga better.

i like mangas more than anime, one reason is tht mangas dont hav fillers like animes do which really kills the anime, for example bleach and naruto.
another reason is tht animes sometimes cut out blood and fights and such for younger ppl but mangas are like raw images. so overall mangas all the way! biggrin

Life > manga AND Anime.
But, mostly Manga > Anime.

I voted Manga > Anime, but there are a few exceptions (ex: Wolf's Rain, Trigun). I just didn't feel that there were enough to warrant the "Depends on the series" response.

My basic reasoning is that most anime is based off of a manga series, and, nine times out of ten, the manga is better for quite a few reasons (original, so always sticks to the storyline; no fillers; no tampering with characters; no worrying about voice actors; cheaper). It's kind of like when movies are made based off of books: Any die-hard fan of the book will be disappointed unless the movie is exactly like the book, which basically never happens.

oo... I really like this poll! It's cool to see what other people think.
I wish there was an option for extremists like me, though... somethin like, "manga totally pwns anime." [btw, I dislike anime because of its nature and style (you know, its intrinsic properties and all that jazz), not because of content.] Because I'm curious how many all-manga-and-absolutely-no-anime people there are out there, y'know? ...Come to think of it, I'm really starting to wonder if there are any at all besides me. It get's sorta lonely sometimes... Well, to each his own, I s'pose.
