I'm more picky about the plot and character development. I can stand old school mangas, as long as they have some intrigue and feelings put into them.

For me, the idea of story is what will i pay attention more. Much different genres i could read and follow, but i dont read yaoi. Art work is not really matter, but i dislike the manga with bad graphics (but my opinion about "bad graphic" might be different with yours)

additional comments : i forgot to include hentai, mature, adult, and ecchi/smut in genres that i hate. Some mature or ecchi/smut is okay, but i dont like them too much

I guess...maybe, maybe not. The attractiveness of the storyline is always my first consideration, and my view of 'bad' art is when the illustrations are confusing and I can't figure out what the heck is going on or who is who. But other than that, most art styles are A-OK. I'm not the kind of girl who can't stand shounen / seinen art -- nor do I find the glittery, flowery, shoujo / josei type to be annoying in any way.

Unlike most of the people here, I read shounen-ai, shoujo-ai and the occasional yuri (but yaoi I dislike 'cause the sex scenes are sickening). I also take care to avoid hentai, shota/loli, smut, harem (reverse or otherwise) and ecchi. Any other genre is fair game to me.

I rarely drop manga -- but that's 'cause I pick up a series only after I've ascertained that there's something about it I'll like.

i'm not extremely picky, in the sense that i'll give most manga a shot at first. i do get turned off by awkward drawing styles or styles i don't like though. i'll press on through a manga for a good few chapters to give it a chance usually though.

picky is the core of my being. nuff said.

Plot/Premise: has to be interesting and slightly different than other stories; originality.

Artwork: clean, uncluttered and does not look like a rough sketch, but will ignore the last one if it has a good premise. Ex. Natsu no Zenjitsu, Onani Master Kurosawa

The three things I look for in a manga, which usually are mainly seinen or shounen, but also (although rarely) shoujo. I ignore all series which contain weak male leads, rape, yaoi, gender benders, loli, shota, mecha (though I like Evangelion), 4-koma, and gag comedies. I could go on and on about what I don't like, lol.

I don't know how to say this, nor I know in what position I should put myself. I only read manga with nicely drawn artwork and interesting plot lines. The truth, the way I decided to try read a manga or not is from the pictures drawn. If I like the pictures, I'll go and check the summary out. Never go anywhere far from Shoujo, Comedy, Romance. I sometimes read Shounen, but only the popular ones. I usually gave up reading stories that are already very boring from the beginning. I don't read old time manga. The art is just weird, especially shoujo ones with the ultra-glittery and sparkly eyes, with a whole excessive bunch of flowers blooming here and there out of nowhere. I also don't like Shounen mangas that are too manly, with lots of blood and guns and wars everywhere. So I guess I'm quite (or maybe AM) picky.

i completely avoid fluffy stuff,action,yaoi,yuri,ecchi,hentai

i would only read something which has :
tragedy(im a sucker for tragedy haha)
psychological and
romance(romance as a subplot too)
tags on it

the art doesnt matter at all to me,as long as the content is good i would read anything

good art is a must, like kekkaishi or anything from CLAMP. It must have some sort of fantasy or supernatural element to it. Romance is always a plus; ecchi, hentai, and smut don't bother me, but keep yaoi and yuri far far away from me. The story has to be deep and the characters good looking. Seriously, it sometimes takes me WEEKS to find something i'm willing to read. Also, I really hate sports manga.

Yes I am I always like considering the art above all, because as an artist myself I simply can't stand misproportions. That means I can't bear reading a lot of shonen (too simple art), esp ecchi.
Second, the plot. I hate cliche storylines.Most modern shoujo are a turn off for me and I really work hard to look for stories with a unique twist, special trait and so on, thus I find 'old art' really good Some of favorite artists are Yuki Kaori, Hwang Mi Ri, and all those mangaka who draw in detailed forms
Third, the protagonist. Like I said, I hate stupid girls, horny/dumb boys. Y'know what I mean.
Fourth, yaoi/yuri/shonenai/shoujoai is off limits. I dont like homosexual relationships in my manga
Lastly, as a girl, I dont like a lot of manly genres. Like, mecha, guns, mafia, hentai, ecchi (but shojo ecchi is fine), too bloody stuff, you know what I'm talking about. I like fantasy (but not too magical that it's too childish), historical, romance (yes) and mystery.
But I pretty much read everything that fits my standards Therefore, throw any manga/manhwa my way, and I'll read it
Being picky is part of my personality. From shoes, clothes, books to cars. That is what sets me apart from most. (and what makes my life so miserable )

I'm somewhat picky. I sometimes put off reading series because the art or what not. I wont read some genres & I have difficult time putting up with bad art. But I do try to force myself to read everything. I guess I'm mildly picky.

I am a very picky reader...sometimes...
What I mean is, I read some manga that others might think are "trash" for example, I love Bleach, but a lot of people complain about it's pacing or plotting, etc....
But I tend to be picky with shojo mainly, because I hate whiny, weak heroines and love triangles that are overly dramatic...and most shojo have that...
Then again there are some manga I'll read that I know are full of cliches, but I'm just reading them for their smutty content (Yaoi mangas, I don't really care for shojo smut)...

So a lot of the popular shojo I can't stand or I don't feel like reading just by looking the the summaries...
For example:
High School Debut
Vampire Knight
Anything by Mayu Shinjo (I don't like her stories or art) and Yuu Watase (except for Sakura Gari and Arata Kangatari)
And others I can't remember

So I don't mind cliches if they are dealt with in a more original way, I really hate the "girl met guy a long time ago and they now meet again and he's sooo hot and she's all in love with him" cliche
Same goes for gender-benders, I dont mind them, but most are very dumb cus usually is a girl trying to get closer to a guy for dumb reasons (I'm looking at you hana kimi)
Chiro Star Project is one of the few gender-benders that at least try to deal with the consequences of pretending to be a gender you are not

And as for art, It's important, but not so much that I can't enjoy the story if the story is good.....
But I prefer manga that have nice art and a good story
