It's not new, but this is a new article. About how taste in music is linked to personality, and corrections to some misconceptions regarding how we imagine the personalities of certain music type fans.
I'd like to point out in specific Heavy Metal listeners, which I am, and for me the description is right on.

What do you think? Is it accurate? Do you like Jazz but you're a fidgety introvert with low self esteem? bigrazz

The results seem more like a horoscope than a scientific study...

My theory: Because horoscopes are so general, they fit a lot of people. And in this case a lot of people were asked so the result is general? Like reverse horoscope situation. Do I make sense? none

edit: And it is about such a fuzzy subject as personality...

This is totally wrong on my part I am not outgoing and I listen to blues soul and metal really there is no relevance to me. But they got the creative part right. Also forgot to add that I have a relly low self-esteem.

I can't dumb my tastes into one folder.
Then again, I am not sure what my personality
is like since I am both extrovert and shy,
peace loving and violent and stuff like that.

I like Pop & Indie and the occasional Rock.

And whose big idea claimed that I have high self-esteem? Because if I know anything about myself, my self-esteem is on the negative end of the meter.

Haha, I listen to rap, reggae, indie and rock... so they kind of cancel each other out self esteem-wise. But apparently in general I am creative.

Hehehe I was curious about this... but it's pretty - er - contradictory on my part.

Mainly because my two favorite music genres are rock/heavy metal and classical music (I find it so relaxing, one whole playlist on my ipod is all Liszt, Rachmaninov, Mozart and Bach!). Which means I am both:

High self-esteem, creative, introvert and at ease

and

Low self-esteem, creative, not hard-working, not outgoing, gentle, at ease

Mmmm seems to be a problem with my self-esteem?

You have to add the personality traits: You have a medium self-esteem, are very creative and at ease, plus not hard working, introvert, not outgoing (aren't the two latter ones the same btw?).

Oh no! Now I wanted to find out about myself and what do I have to see!? I like chart pop (laugh if you want, and least I'm admitting it!) and rock/heavy metal:
Chart pop:
High self-esteem, not creative, hardworking, outgoing, gentle, not at ease
Rock:
Low self-esteem, creative, not hard-working, not outgoing, gentle, at ease

That means I'm very gentle but mediocre in any other way. Maybe that's not too far from true, though...

I've seen this before, and I think it's asinine.

I listen to Blues, Jazz, Metal, Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop and Country Music.

I have high self esteem, am introverted, creative, intense, violent, and not at ease.

Does not compute.

I like Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rap, and Opera, all genres supposedly associated with high self-esteem. My self esteem is average, not low but certainly not high. Professor North fails in my opinion. I also liked how all the potential uses of this study were related to helping companies sell us more shit. Of course, if, statistically, North's study is right 51% of the time, then it has value as marketing data, but I agree with aho, it strikes me as utterly asinine. Would really, after having someone you just met tell you they're into heavy metal, think, "Oh, he's creative, but not hard-working or outgoing, but very gentle and at ease!"

I like all types of music. But for some reason, I like piano music. The ones that are only piano, go slowly, and tend to make you go into depression...
Is that weird? confused
