I trust my very immediate family, but then some have done things to break my trust in them. I trust about five of my friends, so when one breaks my trust, well, it takes a long while for it to come back. none

When you come in contact with someone, you can see deep into their mind. Extract their personality and then decide if trust can be placed upon them.

you got the ES-gene? eek

Thats kinda like saying: when you look at someone you can look deep underneath their clothes, extract their three sizes and then decide if you like what you see.

But people gotta reveal themselves first, and for that some initial trust is needed before all else.

Well, hopefully, when you "come in contact with them", you are oberservant enough to notice their characteristics. Even actors reveal small details. My strategy has always been, "Be nice on first sight, but beware". A lot of data can be collected from a single conversation. Nevertheless, I don't view human as monsters. I view them as children....children with certain habits. But you probably think I'm spilling wastes out....well, that's what philosophers do anyway.

You view humans, in general as children. Then what are "human children" to you? Yes, you can collect a lot of data through conversation, but first impressions aren't everything. Nice motto, theory, philosophy, strategy, whatever...It's interesting.
Trust is a vague term. Humans are selfish and narcisstic by nature and birth. There's nothing you can do about it. Anybody can just, WHAM turn around and stab you in the back. I don't trust anbyody (PARANOIA FTW!)
ES was a good manga though. xD

omg....you are almost as rude as O' Reilly. smile wink grin
Yeah, you have a pessimistic view of life. But ask yourself this, if a child is about to fall from a tall ladder, would you not run to the child, even without thinking? Thus human are naturally good. Adults show childish behaviors all the time. Thus adults are children with an outer shell created by themself to fit society.

I wouldn't say I easily trust, more like I gradually give away more and more and see how far I can trust that person. There are certain thing I'll trust with some people that I wouldn't with others, though.

nah, my only point is that even before the first converstion trust is needed, exactly because every conversation is self-revealing in a way. This trust can't be based on any good reason, since the people know nothing about each other yet, including their trustworthiness. After the circle of revelations is in motion personality can and should be considered.

you don't need to trust someone to just talk to them. If a stranger comes up to you, of coruse you aren't going to trust that stranger. But if he ask you a question, you would then be in a conversation with that stranger. And hopefully that conversation carries you into something more. But you know, that's just me. I been told I am very observant at times.

you do, for everybody has a certain social anxiety, i.e. the fear the revealed characteristics might be judged negatively.

I'm referring to more of the general people......people who don't have social problems....people who don't run screaming when someone tries to talk to them.......like the cat lady down the street who never got married because she was never pretty enough.... cry and then have to pretend she wasn't interested in getting married.....and die alone......but that's another story.

social anxiety doesn't equal social phobia. Social anxiety is a normal part of social functioning says the omniscient Wikipedia.

I never implied social anxiety doesn't equal social phobia. Actually I never even mentioned either terms. All I am saying is that you don't need to trust someone to just talk to them. And I am just referring to normal people.....not that weird kind sitting all by himself in the lunch room and never had a single friend. As long as you get the gist of it, technicality shouldn't matter that much.

I'm stealing this section from your discussion for a reason. The events described above happen to be pretty much exactly what my Mom and aunt see for my future, but I would like to point out a flaw - I talk. It can be online, or to a someone working at a register in a store. I'm going to talk. I might not trust these people, but I don't think they're going to assault me at that moment.
