Quote from Sonickrazy
It's up to the individual to decide if they love their partner, not the government.
Exactly.
The governments only job should be te uphold order in society and provide a range of social services to assist it's subjects and ensure a prosperous society.
A government should not busy itself with the moral welfare of it's society, that is something it needs to work out itself. Stuff like prohibition of same sex marriages is only supported by religous zealots who fear moral decay, and the apocalypse as a result. There is no rational argument to prohibit same sex marriage, only moral, which is highly subjective. Honestly, I see no difference between these christian zealots enforcing this kind of religious law giving and sharia law. Both are backward and ancient systems from a time people thought the earth was flat and everything was made out of fire, water, air and dirt. Get with the times.
Edit: @shea07: Socrates wasn't gay, he was greek. Everyone had sex with everyone, supposedly. There was no distinction made between people that preferred sex with the same sex or not. People just liked having sex, alot. People still do, shows you how far we really got in 2500 years.
Now DaVinci, he was likely homosexual. There are several letters and other stuff to support that, but it's still not very certain.
Foucault might have been a good example, he most certainly was gay, though he did die of AIDS, so maybe not the best spokesman.
