With anime producers cutting back and manga titles being delayed or cancelled, what are your predictions for 2009?

Which books you think will not be happening?
Which companies will find themselves in trouble?
Will companies blame scanlations for their ill rather than the economy?

What will be the effect on Japanese market?

I'm hoping Shounen Jump gets some better series going... I feel like they haven't had a real catch recently. Not only that, but personally I wish they'd stop with weekly magazines. I don't know how those artists can take 20 pages a week even with 5 assistants... ._.

Seems like companies for the most part continue to ignore scanlations. I just wish cease and desist letters wouldn't happen for series not yet licensed in English. >_> (edit: Mybad, I think I was thinking of fansubbers this happened to, not scanlators.)

I think things will continue going smoothly for the US manga market at least. I don't know much about the Japanese market.

I believe that with subbed Naruto eps being released directly through a streaming site for a fee, certain manga publishers will follow the same approach. With the cancellation of several manga magazines and the cancellation of many supposedly unpopular manga series in the last several years, I think online distribution will become a significant trend in 2009, although we won't see this in full stride for another year or two after. Also, the complete dissolution of A.D. Vision, and another long year without the next volume of Yotsuba&! cry

I think this is a very interesting prediction and analysis of what the year ahead might be for manga;
