Batoto is an online reader that helps out scanlators with the ad money. This helps with the time and money it takes to buy and scanlate manga which scanlators do for free. I'd highly recommend you read from Batoto or directly from the scanlators' site to support them instead of some lousy company that profits off the hard work of others (cough* Mangafox Mangahere etc *cough) bigrazz

Scan groups trying to "control" their releases is a exercise in futility. The ones who are worth a shit understand this.

You're being reductionist. There are many other options besides quitting entirely or learning to like online readers. Let scanlators play around with them without your juvenile attempts at cynical one liners.

Just curious, how exactly does this happen? Does Batoto pay the scanlators with the money they get from ads, or..?

Who do you think you are? you are 1 of many, It's not about simply giving up, if you, as a part of the whole, stop thinking that it's better not to try then you make the world a little better. Is that kind of loser mentality that is backwards, rather that ruining it for everybody, the scalantors just ask people not to let those son of the bitch win. How do you have the balls to say give up? How can you say "it's hopeless"? you sound like a manga character on an Emo trip, if it's wrong lets try to do it better, we are a part of the whole if "we" do it then it's done.

Keeping the ads asking people not to read on the scans or simply asking people over chats or forums, it's just about hoping someone notice they are part of the whole.

They host ads for scanlators' series by request apparently. Some scanlators are still opposed to Batoto hosting their stuff though.

I'm kinda on the fence. I mean, I scanlate (haven't done it in a while since I'm usually a one person team and it's a pain to clean, typeset, et al) and in the beginning I didn't care if my stuff was on mangafox, since I was doing it so other people could enjoy series I had enjoyed and weren't available in their countries or whatnot.
And in the beginning, when I asked for one of the series I was working on to be taken down it was, (then I never checked on that again, until about a year later someone told me that it was back on) but at that point I was done working on that series for the general public.
That was the first time I was annoyed w/ the people I was trying to "help" by providing entertainment, because not only did they ruin it for themselves by not keeping the series out of the general public's eye, but it ruined it for the ones that were loyal readers since the series was completely left in the dark (for a while anyway, someone else picked it up).

I'll admit, I use mangafox and mangahere to read stuff, mainly yaoi on mangafox and mangahere for the stuff that is blocked on mangafox. That being said, I try to use the scanlators online readers as much as possible when I can.

So I can't say I hate it or love it. They provide a service for me, and I do buy quite a bit of manga and am willing to buy, so the only reason why I use mangahere is for their extensive library (they literally have everything on there), and mangafox cus it's easy to browse by category/genre.

Sounds like you don't really know what you're talking about.

If you want to talk about hypocrites, Mangafox is probably one of the biggest offenders out there.

Despite claiming people should support the mangaka, they sell FAKE unlicensed anime/manga goods in their store.

They also put on a false facade of listening to Scanlator's wishes by creating a special forum for Scanlators to submit requests, only to delete the whole forum a couple days later with no explanation. Not to mention, even when Scanlators politely submit requests in threads, they get deleted for no reason.

And for those few lucky removal requests that actually do get through, MangaFox just use their other online reader 'MangaHere' to post the series they just removed.

And don't get me started on how they post their own watermarks on other people's scanlations. As well as using their money to create their own scanlation group just so they can upload faster LQ of popular series (which already had very good scanlation groups working on them).

I believe that is the case, but I'm not exactly sure. Check out batoto to find out. I know for a fact that anything uploaded there is by the scanlators' own wishes, though. eyes

Reading sites suck bad
The reasons as to why:

- Low quality images
- Load times between pages
- ADS
- They add their banner to the front or back page or all of the pages
- No respect to the scanlators (most of them)

and contrary to all of that i dont get why ppl still seem to prefer them. Just go to the scanlator's page and download the freaking thing with the highest quality possible without all of the bullshit above.

down with online reader sites!

-everyone should have to go around to each groups individual sites and download every chapter one at a time before they can read it! and anyone who disagrees is against scanlators- even though almost every site gives credit properly and i have never seen credits pages removed!

Not to mention how useful online readers are for finding new manga to read. It's awkward to actually download a manga before you even know if you like the series or not.

Reading sites suck bad
The reasons as to why:

Quote
- Low quality images
-- the quality is relative to the individual sites and the groups that scanlate them, and it usually fine. plus i dont think most people read zoomed in at 100%; better quality is good-- but having each page be 5 times bigger than your entire screen serves no purpose
Quote
- Load times between page
-- load times depend on your connection and your computer. the ONLY time i ever have problems with loading time is within the first hour that the big three come out. also- if you dont have time to wait half a second between pages, why would you go through each scanlators individual site and download every chapter one at a time (with most of them using storage services that dont allow parallel downloads)
Quote
- ADS
adblock plus
Quote
- They add their banner to the front or back page or all of the pages
i actually agree on this one. watermarks and undeserved self gratification is just a shitty thing to do.
Quote
- No respect to the scanlators (most of them)
only ones i know of like that are mangafox and mangahere - and theyve gotten a lot better at leaving the credits in- in fact i dont even know the last time ive ever seen a credits page removed; or if the group doesnt allow rehosting- then thats on them. nobody wants to go to a different site for every different series. especially when most of them dont have readers and force you to download.

sites like batoto make things so much easier.
its like why would you want to mediafire and download every cat video you wanted to watch- when you can just go to youtube and watch it instantly with little difference in quality
