I think Del Ray is pretty good. They seem to be very accurate regarding translations and are very in depth about it near the notes section.

'Best' in what regards? Quality of the print paper? The amount of volumes they release every month? Their translations? The licenses they acquire? etc.
Personally, my favourite publishers (although they all have their faults) include;
- Ponent Mon (gorgeous stock paper and dust-covers, although their translations can be hokey)
- Dark Horse (all their early sci-fi stuff like Akira and Ghost In the Shell, great consistency, forerunners of the horror genre in manga)
- Vertical (for expanding on the horribly small amount of Tezuka Osamu manga translated, and for their production quality and volume release rate)
- Viz Media (only for their Signature Line, Editor's Choice and real early stuff)
- Last Gasp (relatively new, but their titles are so insanely original, and top quality production too)

I've only ever bought from Viz(just their signature stuff) and Drawn and Quarterly.
Although I've always hated how Viz screws up covers and names they usually do a good job. I've seen nothing bad out of D&Q. Only thing I can think of is that they print it from left to right, but it's not really a big deal since they crop most of the panels instead of just flipping them.

I've bought from Yen Press, Del Rey, Tokyopop, Viz, and ADV Manga.
They all seem to be good or decent, but they all have their flaws, as well.

I really liked Comics One before it went under. I'm a fan of everything they've done. If only they had finished Bride of Deimos...
As for the more well-known imprints, I'm kind of fond of CMX. I mean, they did Swan, Cipher, Emma, and From Eroica With Love - how could I not? They tend to have not-the-greatest production values, though.
Although at the moment I'm madly in love with Fantagraphics because of the whole "Matt Thorn designer line" that the classic shoujo community is obsessing over at the moment.
Other than those I really don't like most English manga publishers.

I've bought from a lot, but I really liked CMX, Yen Press, and Dark Horse. Oh, and Del Rey's pretty good too. I like their index
Edit: Btw, I picked those four cos' they usually translate ones that other publishers don't. Specifically manhwas...xD.

I like Viz because they keep they keep their prices lower than most of the other publishers and they translate the sound effects as well. I just don't like pink covers

I like Viz, Tokyopop and Del Rey for the vast selection of mangas. As for best translations, Del Rey and Yen Press seem to do pretty good when it comes to that. I also like Vertical for bringing some of the classics by TEZUKA Osamu (like Black Jack.)

My favorite manga publishers are definitely Yen Press and Del Rey. First, Yen Press releases a lot of niche titles, not to mention they are releasing three of my favorite manga (Kuroshitsuji, Nabari no Ou, and Pandora Hearts). I've been exposed to a lot of obscure, well written and enjoyable titles through this company. Not to mention their phone book size monthy magazine is a blessing. Del Rey has some quality releases as well, but I commend them more for the way they package their releases then my buying a lot of their titles.
I also like Viz's IKKI line, and am waiting until they release more of their titles. I like Tokyopop because they release some interesting series (and they rescued Tactics from ADV), but the paper quality is a major pet peeve of mine. Other than that, there are a lot of strange, obscure companies that I've bought some good titles from, but they never seem to release past volume one. I don't think I'll ever see the release of volume 2 of Tengu-Jin.

VIZ, TokyoPop, ADV...those are the only ones I've ever bought/read anything from, although sad to say VIZ is ridiculously expensive, 12 pounds for a single small volume? please - I just get their stuff from the library now.
ADV is cheap here so I buy anime videos from them.
In terms of quality, I think if it's cheap, i'll take it.

dark horse did really well for the bride of the water god.. they even put the color pages and everything despite the fact that they don't really publish shoujo manga.
viz has quite a good huge collection of popular manga so i very much love viz. and borders loves giving sales for viz too~
tokyopop... although they are very wishywashy about publishing titles... they do have a huge amount of manga... so thats all the credit ill give them.
poshsam: THEY REALLY ARE EXPENSIVE... my cousin was screaming about how some of the manga at our bookstore went from 8 dollars to 10 dollars.... scary arent you viz...

Publishers? I do have opinions of magazines, not so much of publishers. Well I guess some good ones would be: Kodansha, Shueisha, Kadokawa Shoten, Hakusensha, Shogakukan, Oota Shuppan

Companies that translate manga and publish them in English, not Japanese publishing companies.
