The Bad Stuff
Hello. I like shoujo, don't get me wrong, it's just that nowadays most of them are really annoying to me.
Well, I'd like to ask,
what series/authors have bad art, bad stories, or a combination of both?
There are a LOT of art styles that I find really annoying... plus the stories are dumb. Some of them are:
-everything by Aoki Kotomi
-a lot of Korean artists' series including everything by Hwang Mi Ri
-and some other person that I don't know the name of but I know how she draws her characters... (will update later if I find out)
And one manga-ka has a lot of series that, in my opinion, have awful storylines... and the characters look exactly the same! Aka Ikeyamada Go.
I know there are a whole lot more, but I can't think right now 'cause I'm worrying about an AP Euro test I have tomorrow!!! 😢

You are like the dense main character in a shoujo manga.

The ones that definetly come to mind are Vampire Girl and Beauty is the Beast. I read Vampire Girl completely to see if I could understand it, but it became more and more confusing every chapter. Plus, I consider it has a bad art. As for Beauty is the Beast, I never understood what the story was about. I remained waiting for something to happen and suddenly it finished. At least the art was not that bad...
I also think that most manhuas, or what they are called, have similar storylines and are mostly about gangs and all that (like Hwang Mi Ri or Hang Yu Rang)
"I am a colorful fantasy born on dark nights; a delusion of black and bottomless minds; a thought that dies in the morning reborn by moonlight. What am I?"
- A Night of a Thousand Dreams
I personally think Girl in Heels has awful art (yes it's a Korean manga) but the plot somehow kept me going. It's contradictory: the main female lead is supposedly a beauty but she looks fugly (in my biased opinion). Initially, I dropped this manga on the first chapter because of the art and weird characters. For some apparent reason, several months later I picked it back up. It's not so bad. This manga just gets the 'bad art' label from me.

I totally agree with vampire girl.I never get the story.
Gakuen Ouji - I hate the sory.Very unrealistic and very stupid.
Hot Gimmick- Don't even want to talk about it.
I hate art by most manhwa.I don't like how they draw the character with messy hair. But, there are few manhwa that I read that has good stories and art.

Uh, I could go on forever - honestly, I could.
Gakuen Ouji - like xxkuroxx said, it's unrealistic and extremely stupid.
I like some of Hwang Mi Ri's work, but frankly half of it is boring.
Bad Art? Well, I think (In my opinion only) that Hana Yori Dango fits into that category. I really don't like the way it's drawn!
Pink Lady is good ... the art stills annoys me. It's ... too slow, I might say?
And a combination of both? ... that's tough.
Cyboy In my opinion, there's not one good thing about it.

I like Hwang Mi Ri 🤣
No idea why, however. I ought to be ashamed or something.
Normally, any combination of always-the-same-plot + characters-who-all-look-the-same makes for a lame author.
I haven't read mainstream shoujo in quite some time, so my mind is happily blank of lousy series, but:
Hana Yori Dango had the worst art ever.
Nana has a horrible soap-opera plot.
...I really like Vampire Girl. Was it really that confusing?

Personally I've passed on a lot of good looking stories from the 90's or older just because the art. hana ni nare I wasn't crazy about the art but liked the story until after awhile it just turned into a rape fest. Probably one of the dumbest female leads.

Definitely Hana Yori Dango, the bullying has really gone too far and I hate the "fall in love with the mean person" type of story.
Hot Gimmick...the childhood friend's revenge is a bit much, and again with the indecisive female lead.
She's Scary-- the female lead is a total loudmouth, crass person who does not have an ounce of respect for the people that let her live there. I don't care if she has some family insecurity issues, but she should not have been cussing people like there's no tomorrow.
Love Monster-- I dislike the plot.
I reject a lot of the mangas that were made before the year 2000 due to their art. There's a lot more manga I stopped reading because of either a bad plot or a bad protagonist.

I hate Love Junky. The main character is a complete b**ch to her boyfriend but hes a complete sweet heart to her. I also dont like Hwang Mi-Ri. Most of her work is the same.
I liked the art for Hana Yori Dango. Though maybe it's just cuz I loved the story so much.
I love Skip Beat, but sometimes the art makes me cringe. The mangaka has wacky proportions and sometimes the characters look like they have that shrunken head thingy going on... It's creepy. But the story is awesome.
Vampire Knight was impossible for me to understand. The art was pretty but all the guys looked the same to me... Maybe I just can't take that much bishieness in one setting.
DN Angel was kinda ruined for me once
Dark fell in love with Risa. It kinda ruined his cool image. And it was weird That and the fact the art is weird sometimes (pointy noses much?)
Merupuri - the plot was seriously weird. Maybe I'm just uncomfortable with the fact that the main guy is just a kid.

I personally liked some of Hwang Mi Ri's stuff. I'm a guy and I loved BOF, never read the manga, but I've seen the k-drama... =.= made me cry? But enough about that, BOF's art is "bad" because it was made quite a while ago, so don't compare it to 2011's art!!! >.<
I really disliked Bitou Lollipop, the main guy is a dick. I don't know why I even liked it before. But hey, I dropped it, or at least stopped reading it, at chapter 3 because of the main guy. The art also takes a little getting used to. (Even though the mangaka REALLY improved when she drew Six Half, which I'm totally in love with!!! The cover really makes Shiori unbelievably good looking!)
Your and My Secret is amazingly bad too. The main girl-turned-man is a freaking douche. Plot, well, ehhh.
The latest one, still scarred me though, Ouke no Monshou. I've downloaded 8 volumes straight, thinking it would be good because it's award winning work with adventure, drama, fantasy, historical, romance genres. Only five pages+ and i got my eyes bleeding. I'm still afraid of it now >"<
I could just dropped bad stories and forget them, but i can't forget bad arts.
