Quote from DemonicAzn

@reid1: I"s is on my wish list even though I've read 3 chapters of it online and it didn't really appeal to me as much.
I've already seen the anime of NHK, so if it doesn't differentiate much from the anime, I'll just pass on that then.
Pretty Face has been on my wish list for some time but I've been putting it off because of the fact that its more heavy gender bender (from the description) then just dressing up as a girl.
Video Girl Ai - year 1989... how's the art?
Pastel is from the same author as Parallel and when I read the first 3 chapters and scenarios were quite similar in a few ways so I wasn't really interested enough to put it on my reading list.
For Genshiken I'll put it on my wish list, even though I've given it a pass multiple times already.

I's is my fav manga in its genre, so I really suggest you to try at least a volume or two before putting it away.
I haven't watched NHK anime, so I dunno.
Pretty Face didn't give me the idea of gender bender. I hate that genre, but I liked it.
Video Girl Ai art is similar to I's (Katsura). I suggest you to skip it if you don't like I's which is better.
Yes Pastel is awful similar to Parallel. It's basically the same kind of story extended for 15+ volumes. I supposed you were a Parallel fan so I suggest you to read it, I got bored from it pretty soon, so skip it if you want something more original.
Genshiken is more comedy in the first part than romance. It's probably also more slice of life than both. You probably will find difficult to like it if you're not an otaku.

Anyway I want to give you a little advice: if you're looking also for originality (that's what I had the impression you wanted, maybe I'm wrong) it's a little difficult to find that in this kind of story (or at least you already read the ones that I consider original). You should probably stick with comedy>romance and for manga where something a little deep can happen. I just wanna give you two titles like this and you're free to try them or ignore my advice at all: GTO and Full Metal Panic. I think you could like them, especially the first one.

@reid1: I've seen the GTO anime already and the manga is on my wish list. I'll read where the anime left off when I'm looking for something cool to read I guess.

Hajime no Ippo - the sport is the main focus of the story but......but majority of the manga is spent outside the ring....plus there's romance (though not the main focus).....also even though it came out in the late 80's the art shouldn't be a problem at all
Angel Densetsu - the art's bad in the beginning but eventually it starts to look great
Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi - never read the manga so i dont know how good the art is, but i assume it should be alright based off of what i saw in the anime
Beck
Kekkaishi
Bakuman
Yanki-kun to Megane-chan

Rappi Rangai
(Shounen, Harem, Comedy, Romance, a bit of Genderbender)
You could say it contains a bit of everything
I don't like genderbender too, but in this series I think it's ok just like in Pretty Face
The genderbender is not the main focus (The main character is not a tranvestite)

Shoujo or shounen?

shounens would be the one shot 13 - some icky humour
B-Shock - It might have a bit of drama, nonetheless
B.Reaction - some ecchi

shoujos recos are Boku to Kanojo no XXX - gender-bender
Beast Master
M to N no Shouzou - I do love this manga.

Any Yoshihara Yuki manga has comedy-romance but its smutty so if you don't mind or like that, go for it! And if you like her works, you will also like Nagae Tomomi's works. They are mainly Josei mangas.

Just read both of these, and recommend them since they fit what you're asking for: Katsu and Cross Game.

Art isn't too bad, since they were both done in the 2000's (I didn't read Rough just for that reason), and the storyline is split between sports and romance about... 50/50 or 60/40.

No drama, except Cross Game has a bit early on, but it's not all that heavy - just surprising.
