I live in Japan and it's basically ignored here for the most part. The 1st January is a much bigger deal, people go the the shrine either around midnight or during the 1st week of the year, and everyone generally returns to their hometowns for family meals. They still follow the eastern zodiac, however, so this year is still the year of the rooster. They just start a little early, lol.

I'm British so have never celebrated lunar new year. I know the China towns in some UK cities have a big celebration, but my hometown has stronger Jamaican and Pakistani communities. Our Chinese community is mostly made up of students who leave again once they graduate.
