HAHAHAHA, wow. I love comments like this.
IRC distribution was around long before lurk and long before MU. The only difference was that people would "lurk" in the channel of the group they wanted to get a release from. It worked just fine then. Plus, the same format that MU uses online can be moved to IRC with announcements being provided by a bot. I recall the days when IRC channels for normal groups were bigger than lurk is right now.
Things will be okay. People will just have to adjust and stop being babies and learn how to use some programs they aren't used to.

*blinks*
You do know that these Japanese companies pay the mangka's and print their comics right? Wishing their sales to drop to zero percent is wishing the manga you love so much to get canceled if the parent company folds or has to cut back on series due to low sales.

The AMERICAN companies obviously. And trust me, they aren't "helping" anyone but themselves. Sheesh.

Unwarranted rudeness. Looks like some other people will have to learn to stop being babies, and realize not everyone is as "enlightened" as them.

Yeah, because getting sued is real sexy.
Put your own ass on the line and see what happens.

I bet that, before long, scanlators will stop posting their releases on MU to avoid notice...

Sure. There are plenty of guides available on how to set IRC.

This is a coalition of American and Japanese companies with the lions share of companies being the Japanese. The American companies are compensating the manga authors/artists since a percentage of every sale is a royalty check. It is a business after all that involves a license.

well ive seen it coming from the news for the last few months. But i dont think this is the end, as long as theres scanlators around it aint the end. Yes our reading online days is over at one manga, but there would be other site that would replace it. That site will grow, and then one day its fate would be like onemanga right now.
But the basic thing is if its harder for ordinary people to get and read manga, the more secure our manga days. Sites like onemanga surely makes it easier to read manga, but in the other hand its also put scanlation community in the crosshair of some greedy fat and evil lawyers.
Our hope is that the end of big mangareader sites will also reduce the heat to these community. when the heat is reduced, then our manga reading days will return to normal like it used to.

They're nothing but Crunchyroll sellouts! Cowards like them should just disappear, instead of disgusting us with their continued presence. The more these companies pressure and destroy scanlators and scanlation sites the more their sales will drop. I refuse to buy any American manga anymore, save for possibly one title who's company is not in on this. Anything else I'll get directly from Japan. Everyone else should do that as well. You are not supporting the mangaka by buying manga in the US, you are supporting this reign of terror, by people who don't even really care about manga or you. You are also supporting all their problems, which they are completely unwilling to even attempt to fix. If you want to support the REAL industry then do it. I hope the American manga and anime industry burns.
