Seeing the length of this manga, I wonder if anyone would actually read it, or if the manga is getting old? It seems to me that the author is a bit senseless or is just repeating himself over and over again. I haven't read this, so if I'm wrong, correct me.

I can't say for sure, but any manga that has lasted as long as this one has HAS to have something that people still like in it. I can't read japanese all that well so i couldn't tell you if it repeats itself or gets senseless or anything. If it was all in english, I would definitely read it all, all 1557 chapters! (as of this week's jump issue)

It consistently ranks fairly high in Jump ratings for the magazine, and from what I've read, isn't a very difficult series to follow.

Doesn't it seem strange that a series this big in Japan would have absolutely ZERO presence in the USA? I mean there are 1600 manga chapters and almost 400 anime episodes, yet you can't even find a fansubbed torrent of the anime.

The problem with this manga is that is just too long. It is a huge work to scanalate something this big so only few groups would dare to try. Also no one will probably ever publish this outside of Japan. The art is old style, story out of date and manga woldn't turn much (if any) profit so it would just be dropped.
Maybe in couple of years with cooperation of few scanalation groups... but I wouldn't count on that.no no

From what I've heard its similar to The Simpsons in the US.. it's just kind of an institution, it features celebrity guests in many of the chapters, very up on current events etc.. at this point it would probably be weird to see an issue of jump come out without it.. kinda like the comics in the news paper.. Garfield started around 78' close to the same time and likewise has been in the paper every day since.. it'd be strange to open a paper and not see it.. that's my stance on Kochikame, same kinda thing.. except more culturally relevant and funnier.... and as a final thought it's the same with Case Closed and Hajime no Ippo.. I'll read every chapter that comes out.. but there haven't been any real new ideas in years... but it's still entertaining and there's still some comfort in it being there.... and I've rambled for longer than I care to.. good day to you sir
