That been said, I don't think Appleseed or Mardock really fit. I read mostly subtle romance titles; I'm trying to find something different. Thanks anyway!

Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki - yes, the series has the romance tag. There is a very short romance sequence in the beginning between the female MC and her love interest (later husband).

Right after the second child is born he died. So this is not the actual theme of the plot here. Rather it's about the difficulty for a human woman raising alone two half-human children.

Thankfully they do both have anime adaptations, though I wonder whether they're any good. Either way, worth a shot.

Seirei no Moribito and Juuni Kokki (12 Kingdoms) are among the best anime I've ever seen. They are easily worth watching.

Hey choosing one shots is borderline cheating 🙄 and I can play that game too with Ribbon no Kishi or Kirara to Shiroi Ookami The love is subtile at the most.
Or Tamara or Eden de Aou or Dominion.
Back to longer fom: Mahou Kishi Rayearth Maybe but i wont check as i don´t care, Oniisama e... Neither a clear romance or a GL at all. Very diffirent than one would think.
Scrapped Princess Did not have a real one in the anime but don´t know about the books.Ayako Does not quite fit as she my not be the clear lead. She has sex (very dark one) and well... Read it.
Over in other media: Lara Croft only had some for of love interest in AoD and that one killed the series. Samus from Metroid gained some love interest and the series jumped off a cliff, Alien 3 (assemby cut) has a love story and the directed disowned it. Notice a theme. ?
If you make a narative asexual(gender does not matter) that keep going that way !
PS: Please give my Azumi (best chambara manga ever and it never sexuelises the leading lady even if she is constantly naked or assaulted) a go but that one is for hardcore seinen hounds only. Seirei no Moribito is awesome but it has a clear (background) lovestory. Wolf Children has a lovestory for the daughter later too so it is 100% a romance. First love and all that.

First season of the anime was pretty much clear of romance and if you consider Hikaru as the one and only MC, then yeah, completely free, but everyone and their dog gets a love interest in the second season. I suspect this is equally true for Mahou Kishi Rayearth 2

I do agree on Scrapped Princess anime. Pacifica did little to indicate any romantic feelings toward her hopeful suitor.

Of course the anime is also worth watching.

So you webcomics are a go and webcomics that don't have romance with female mc come more easily to me than manga/manwha/webtoons. These are some of my favorite webcomics with female mc and no romance:

Unsounded (Female mc is practical, no nonsense young thief/heir(?) of a criminal family. Warning: Blood and gore)

Next Town Over (Western with sorcery. Female mc seems to be after revenge.)

Widdershins (Magic in 1830's made up town in England. Female mcs vary from chapter to chapter mostly, two of them don't have a female mc.)

Of course these are ongoing but I don't think they'll be romance with the female mc in them, especially not Unsounded.

Aside: Looking through my list of webcomics, of the comics that don't have romance, hinted and otherwise, more than 50% of them have female mcs if they have mcs at all.

Excel Saga Her crush (or the plot) does not go anywhere in the anime. I am shure that the manga is the same but it became pointless fast and the manga does hentai/Borderline-H. I think that such dojinshi exist so watch it.
Gakuen Sousei Nekoten! Maybe or not ? Hard to tell. It´s ok i guess.
Gekka Bijin Should have a clearer love story by the end. Maybe.
Ghost Hunt Has a slow romance but not that vocally.
Giniro no Kami no Arisa I don´t remember one.
GS Mikami Gokuraku Daisakusen!! Maybe but i left early cuz it´s generic.
Gunslinger Girl No romance for the lead. Can´t beleave that this great manga started as loli hentai or is shonen.
Hana no Asukagumi! Delinquent manga with girls. I did not last.
Hana no Miyako! Female action manga No. X. Pretty generic.
Hiiro no Isu I think that a subtitle romance or something went nowhere.
Ichi A decent gender twist remake of the film series. The romance is somewhat unimportant but there.

Jabberwocky I don´t know where this one went.
Joan No romance cuz history.
Kemono no Souja Has a clear but not vocal love story later.

Kino no Tabi - The Beautiful World (Novel) The anime had none.
Kisshou Tennyo She isn´t quit the main lead but at the end... It has a from of romance but ...The dark themes are great.
Mai, the Psychic Girl No romance but random nudity cuz the artist can´t live without.
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro No romance between the leads and they co-star.
Manhole I am cheating as they also co-star and i don´t think that this was a romance.
Metroid Forgot this one.
Minisuka Uchuu Kaizoku The anime don´t now have one. Generic.
Misu Misou Not sure here too.
Mononoke Soushi Shouldn´t have one. It´s ok.
Mother Sarah She already has children and it´s a bit of a mess with missused rape. No Akira.
Murder Princess I don't remember one or anything.
Nijuu Mensou no Musume The anime had none.
I surprised myself here but research is my job 😎 . Off to bed but i found some nice ones for me along the way. Just according to Keikaku. More next time.
