For the elf character, she was introduced back in the golden age. aka she was one of the apostiles that killed off Rickarts group that did not go to save Griffith.

Heck the very first apostle that dies in the manga was the one that killed Corkus.

After the snake king died we come to another apostle who was a slug king or something, and he too helped kill off Rickarts group.. IIRC he also killed off Pippin during the sacrafice.

If you take a good look at the past characters, you'll see that a lot of the earily apostles that had died, had some hand in the fall of the original Band of the Hawk. And whether Gatsu knew it or not, he's killed off many of those that had killed his friends.

Well,
Berserk, I didn't like at all, although I can't remember why... I shall try to reread it I suppose.
OH, now I remember. Come on, getting teleported by an egg into some random demon world and being beaten up and stuff by an unbeatable enemy then somehow beating him(or was it just escaping?), seriously. ANNOYING. (If I remember correctly. This might be a different manga though.l Its been years since I read Beserk.)

Claymore rocks. Period.

My english isn't very good, so please, don't mistake this thread to be a debate for which manga is better!! no
I was a little offended by some commenters...
But still, I insist this thread to not be mistaken to be a compering one...

Like Claymore, dropped Berserk.
First and second volume of Bersersk looked like the mangaka himself didn't know what he was doing, so I thought it's no use...

Both Berserk & Claymore are incredible series. Their top spots (respectivly #3 & #1) based on user ratings proves that fact.

I myself can't decide yet what I find better. It's been some time now that I've caught up with Berserk and due to the slow release rate of the new chapters my "berserk-madness" has diminished a bit. Claymore on the other hand is a series I've only recently caught up with; wich is why my "claymore-madness" is still fully 'engaged' biggrin

Anyway I notice a lot of people dissing other people because they find Berserk & Claymore 'cut' out of the same piece of wood.
In my opinion Berserk is certainly not Claymore and vica versa; but yet I must say I find them similar in a lot of ways.

Sure Berserk is seinen and not shounen. And even though Claymore has got some level of goreness it's not nearly enough to be compared to the rape & slaugher that is to be seen in Berserk.

But when I reread any of these 2 manga's I notice that both of them can give me this strong epic sense of survival; a feeling of accomplishment by going in against all odds and surviving while figting desperatly with your life on the line.

As in Berserk, Gutts has to cary the burden of being one of the last of the original Band of the Hawk; we see Claire as 1 of the 7 Ghosts of the Nord in 'Claymore', carying the burden of being the last of the 24 warriors sent out for extermination by 'the organisation'.

Clearly the past has left an overwhelming mark on both protagonists.
Claire has sworn revenge for Theresa & her comrades and is in search for Pricella; while Gutts can't forgive Griffith for the sacrifice he made for his dream.

Anyway comparisons can be both be accepted and rejected on more levels than each of us could ever think about; I just wanted to have my say in this as well cool

If I remember correctly you must have just stopped too soon for the flashback to Gutts his past; wich evidently explains a lot of what's going on.

Probably. I just had no patience to keep up with the mangaka, when the series was not looking very promising. It was so messy at the beginning, both the story and the art
none

Just ignore them

Seriously, I think this is not such a bad thread.

My top 3 manga's are (atm) Berserk & Claymore followed by Ganz or something. That's one of the reasons that I think that most people who appreciate Berserk will also be able to show that same appreciation for Claymore. Quite frankly I don't know if that's true; but a thread like this helps... or I could always go buy some Tarrod cards.

Well the flashback arc of berserk is incredibly well done I must say. If I want to reread some berserk I often take that part for reviewing.

I don't know how I thought about the first volumes the first time; but I think it's best to judge about Berserk only after (or during) the flashback arc.
Before that I don't think you could possibly have any firm grasp of the true story / plot / protagonist / circumstances.

Another thing is that the 'flashback-arc' is more "bloody than dark"; while I would describe the other parts of berserk more "dark than bloody"; so it's a nice change perhaps ;)

i think at this point keeping it from becoming a comparison thread maybe a lost cause...but kudos on the effort

@zacharias- i'm the opposite about berserk. I liked the after flashback arcs (and pre-flashback i suppose) better, but it was definitely crucial in setting up my favorite part tho

Here's the difference between Berserk and Claymore
Berserk: Seinen
Claymore: Shounen
That's it.
