*blinks*

Well shoot. I've noticed a bunch of Gintama fanfiction from a few favorite authors on FF.net so I've dl'ing the volumes to see if I like the series.

What a shame. If I like a series and have money I tend to buy it.

This is what we can expect when we actually buy the manga from the license holder.....

It's not the first time or the first title I've tried, heck it's not even the first company. The firms wants us to stop scanlation but when it comes to buying their shit we get threated like this. I'm not a reader of Gintama but I feel with the people who were actually buying it.
Lately, Tokyopop closed their doors so I can say goodbye to half of the title I buy....47/2 = screwed.
Yes, I will not waste those money on buying manga but I feel cheated for being all those volumes when they get ended in the middle without an official end. Like how I felt with Kurohime which was stopped at vol 14 by Viz when there were only 4 more volumes to finish...

I would love any sane person to tell me why I should trust the license holders to actually finish a title in the future, why I should buy it and why scans are bad again?

This kind of "accidents" where the reader is the only loser only makes me feel that scanlation should keep on.

That's my 50 cents on the deal. bigrazz

I don't read Gintama, but isn't this just a kick in the face for all the people collecting the series?

Was considering starting to buy One Piece legally even though I don't rate Viz's translation too much, but this puts me off..

I wouldn't worry about One Piece given its one of the Big 3 and iirc the most popular series in Japan atm.

As for Gintama, I certainly didn't expect this from Viz.

I learned a long time ago not to buy North American releases of manga/anime until it was completely out. My thanks go to ADV for teaching me that. They never did finish Rune Soldier or Those Who Hunt Elves. I ended up buying the whole set in Japanese which eventually led me to never again buying the English versions of manga I like. Its raws or nothing now. What's going on with Viz and Tokyopop doesn't surprise me. They (the entire industry) have been driving away their core customers for a while now with stupid decisions like that as well as licensing far too many series.
