Quote
TOKYO, JAPAN - Popular Japanese cartoonist Yoshito Usui, whose manga and animation series 'Crayon Shin-chan' has attracted a worldwide fan base, has gone missing on a hiking trip, police said Wednesday.

Usui, 51, left his home north of Tokyo last Friday for a day-trip to mountains in nearby Gunma, a prefectural police official said.

But he has since been unaccounted for with calls to his mobile phone left unanswered, the official said. 'We are searching for him in the mountains.'

Usui made his debut as a manga author in 1987 and gained popularity in the 1990s with 'Crayon Shin-chan' featuring the daily life of Shinnosuke, a mischievous five-year-old boy.

'We are seriously worried,' said a spokesman for publisher Futabasha Publishers Ltd., which has released some of his comics.

hope hes well and safe

OMG i hope he's not really missing... or get lost in the mountain.
May be he just want to get some inspirations smile
I would feel really sorry if something happened to him/Crayon Shin-Chan.

I hope he comes back alive and safe, because that's pretty freaky having someone just suddenly disappear like that...

Man, I hope he's ok. It can be pretty dangerous to get lost in the mountains. I hope he watched plenty of Survivor Man before this happened...(Does that even play in Japan?) But, seriously, I hope they find him soon.

I don't understand the Mark Sanford reference. Was Yoshito Usui involved in some scandal that he would have to escape from?

He wasn't escaping a scandal, the fact that he suddenly disappeared for a couple of days and then said that he was hiking on the App. Trail when he really was in Argentina was the scandal...

I'm actually feeling really sad right now.

I loved Crayon Shinchan as a kid and still love it today as an young adult.

R.I.P. Yoshito Usui.
