Quick question, what are some good non-superhero comics? I want to start reading more comics but every time I go looking for something good I am bombarded with rehashes of the same old tired superhero story...
specifics?
Already mentioned these, but:
Maus is a good Holocaust tale
Fables spins a whole world around twisted fairytales
"The Walking Dead's" got zombies
"Y the Last Man" is about the last man on Earth
The "Sandman" and "Magic" series by Gaiman are goth/occultish and "Sandman"'s a classic
Sin City is noir/mystery and very worth a read
Highway-STAR mentioned Transmetropolitan, which is about a rogue reporter living in a dystopia
Couldn't finish it, but some people love Persopolis (growing up in Iran)
"Birth of a Nation", by the boondock's cartoonist, is a very funny satire
light:
Owly is all pictures, no words, and brilliant for it
Amelia Rules is a set of comic books revolving around a 4th grader
Minx publishes a couple of comics (manga influenced but not OEL) that are targeted towards girls (I've read/liked Re-Gifters and The Plain Janes)
"American Born Chinese" is okay, but it feels unfinished

And, I knew people would mention newspaper strips.
What's wrong with strips? That's how I learned to read. And there are some newspaper strips that are far than some of the junk being published in book form.
