I really care about the art style as long as the story is good i'll read it, I have only dropped a manga because of it's story. The art will attract to a manga though, the only art I particularly dislike is 70's oldschool. I like Mitsuteru Yokoyama's art style (tetsujin 28).

the poll is stupid imo. lets just take the mu mangaka entries: about 7400. say, there're double mentions, pen names, empty entries, etc. cut the number down to 5000. as we all know, most mangaka are copy-cats to please the mainstream: 1000. 1000 mangaka with a somewhat unique art..

"Most hardcore ecchi/hentai"

well, i'm not gonna start on that and just stop here

sorry for ranting and mediocre english

ps: i can see how you put some manga/manhwa together, but wtf: do nana and trc bear any resemblance? anatolia story and ranma 1/2?

Realistic(ish), like Vinland Saga, Berserk or Vagabond. Can't stand big eyed shoujoish style. The standard anime style is kinda annoying too. Some "standard" shounen stuff is good though. Like FMA or Naruto. Generally shounen has more to offer than shoujo considering artistic styles.

Wow, that's... narrow-minded. >:-( You've probably just read a greater variety of shonen than shojo, so I'll forgive you for your ignorance. 🤣

Right now I'm loving 70s shojo-style art, like Kaze to Ki no Uta and Swan. 😃 It's so opulent. But I love so many different styles ~ mostly different shojo styles: Descendants of Darkness, Loveless, Basara, Cantarella, Tower of the Future, Alichino, Angel Sanctuary... They all have amazing art, but are all totally unique.

Actually, the art style I like least is "realistic" ~ of the manga I've read in that style, characters' expressions tend to be... non-existant. And since emotion is kinda important in most plots, it's off-putting when characters' faces are like masks. 😐

im sorry, but i hate shoujo and old school art. its just plain old bad looking as well as very similar. the shoujo art, that is.
anyway, i really like a lot of manhwa and shounen art. my favorite artist is the guy who does aflame inferno, but obata takeshi is also very good. i think his characters look like real people

I like the modern/realistic type. There's less likelyhood that I'll be able to enjoy Shoujo, old school, Manhwa or abstract styles. But that's usually because their storied tend to be boring.. And the art really doesn't help then.

Shojo art tends to be exaggerated for emotional effect, which can be unappealing for some (heartless? 🤣 ) people. But it's a bit unfair to dismiss a whole genre based on stereotypical or generic manga art styles ~ if I thought Bobobo-bo bo-bobo (...what a title... 😐 ) was the benchmark for shonen manga, I wouldn't have dared to offend my eyes with other shonen series. Thankfully, possessing the gift of intelligence (...no offence... 🤣 ), I do realise that each mangaka has their own unique art style and story-telling abilities, and that you can't judge a whole genre based on a handful of titles. 😃

Heh, I really like the "old school" art style; I find it charming and often beautiful.

But really my favorite kind of art is variety; I can't stand the generic kind of art you see everywhere, the kind where you can't distinguish one mangaka from another. Even if it's crude, I like to see different or experimental art in manga.

It's not that having different art will make a story automatically good, but it at least shows the mangaka is original.

I don't have one. I could go for some Clamp or some Adachi in a wimp. I'm usually more interested in the storyline and characters development. However, when I started reading manga, I wouldn't read any Adachi because the art style was just too odd/old looking to me, but then i changed. There is one manga that I just cannot get into because of the art is Versailles no Bara...just can't 😐

i dont really care for the art "style",but as long as its beautiful and detailed [e.g. bride of the water god] then im good.i dont like mangas that look like they were unfinished or something.
BUT the one i prefer the most is the manhwa style.

No I've read lots of Shoujo and Josei. Tons of it actually. And yes, considering artistic styles, Seinen and Shounen has greater variety than Josei and Shoujo. 😀 😎

I don't think what I like fits into any of the categories.
For instance, where exactly do Yuki Kaori or Hayakawa Tomoko fit? Both have very unique styles.

Masca and Bride of the Water God fit under manhwa because they are Korean, not because of the art.

Alpine Rose counts as old school, and I do like old school shoujo art, but...

What I like is generically shoujo; not the 'googly eye' kind, but the kind I consider interesting or beautiful. So 'other' for me.

generally i don't care about art. it doesn't affect the way i read the story.

but i LOVE kaori yuki's art. i like any art that's like hers; realistic with just a touch of fantastic exaggeration. i love sahara mizu's art as well. simple but expressive <3

big-eyed shoujo art really puts me off...though i wont mind reading a manga with that kind of art if the story is great.
