My Dad was stationed in Japan when I was really little(<2). He was a Marine, and didn't go for Manga and Anime. It wasn't until we came back to the states and I was about 4 that he started renting anime for me from the little corner video near my house. I started with old school titles like Ninja the wonderboy and various Unico titiles. Totally awesome to a 4 yr old, I must have watched NWB 100 times. Around 8yrs old I watched Akira as well as all the Dragon Ball Z and Speed Racer eps. on the spanish language channel (they were the only network playing anime in my town). I wouldn't consider myself a fan until Ninja Scroll came out. Once I saw that it was over....all anime, all the time in my house.

I'll admit that Dragon Ball Z was one of the reasons that got me into anime/manga, but I'd been interested in it back when I first saw akira at a wee age. Since I don't remember how old I was I chose under 7 cause it's been more than 12 years and seeing as how I'm 19 it seemed resonable.

Hmm...about 5 years ago when I was in 8th grade was when I first got into mangas. I checked out the manga call MARS from the local library and just started reading out of boredom and then blossom my love for mangas! Haha...(Even to this day my favorite manga is still MARS!) eyes

I started getting into anime and manga in 6th grade (12 years old). I was a serious noob. Didn't know anything. In the past couple of years, I've gained sooo much knowledge that I'm a full-blown otaku now biggrin

my first anime was sailor moon, i don't really know how old i was. i used to imagine that i'm like sailor moon, that some day a talking cat would appear in front of me, and i will be fighting bad guys laugh ... it's nice being young.
than i forgot about it, and than when i was 14 i found one site with the sailor moon episodes and downloaded them. then i saw other animes too, untill i discovered a manga site, and now i love manga more than anime. biggrin

I was into stuff like DBZ fairly early on(started around 5-6, I think). I think my first series was Ronin Warriors, actually, but I watched it on and off. I didn't really get into anime/manga in general until I was 11 or so though, so that's what I put in the poll.

Lulz, I still remember exactly how it happened. I'd just started reading the DBZ graphic novels that I got from a library because I was still a DBZ freak then, and an acquaintance came over and asked if he could borrow it. I said yeah if he'd trade me something, so he dug out the tenth issue or so of the American Shonen Jump.

Looking back, I was really lucky, because my path into the fandom was all incredibly circumstantial. It'd take more than the world for me to trade that away.

I watch anime since I was 7, macross sdf, heaven war shulato, patlabor, dragon ball good old time. But still my favourite time was when I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1999 ( i was 15yo at that time). It has very high quality for a tv series at that time, no recycled scene, the colors are so beautiful. I watched it about 5 times.

it's the best thing ever happen in this world, without them I can watch nothing in europe (well perhaps Yugi oh, Meitantei Conan, and Pokemon which are boring as hell).

I'm from asia, but currently living in europe as foreign student, in my country there are some store which sell pirated anime cd or dvd..

I voted 25-50, though I don't quite remember the exact age. It was mid-20s or so. Manga was definitely about 25-26, because my first manga was from my sister for my birthday (haha, I don't remember which one). At that time I had already been watching some anime. I have known about anime for much much longer because my sis was into it, but didn't really find it so interesting until recently in life. So I've seen some anime back in the VHS days, and Sailor Moon on TV, and probably Vampire Hunter D on Sci Fi channel's Saturday morning anime.
