I read it with CDisplay too, on my laptop. It's working great, never had any urge to find another.

Since like a half year ago I'm also reading through the Sony Reader (not my article but I think it speaks out my mind biggrin )

Check these, not sure if they have been posted yet.

I used to use windows picture viewer, but now I use two different apps, one for home and one on the go. I have tried many different ones before I found a couple I really liked. I was looking for something to work with my Vista system and I really wanted a light-weight client. Both of these have the essentials needed to view manga from any archive. Also they are have unobtrusive yet excellent interfaces.

cdisplayex
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdisplayex cdisplayex is basically cdisplay with a few modifications because it is open source software. It works smoother than cdisplay and also supports other awesome open source apps such as open office and 7zip (which is a hell of a good extracting tool by the way).

Fiew
http://www.fapplication.org/ Fiew is an awesome little client that handles zipped files in the way cdisplay does. Fiew is great because it is standalone (meaning it can be booted off of a thumbdrive), no installation is required.

by the way both of these are free and Vista friendly! biggrin

CDisplay don't need to be installed too cool

CDisplay for me too..although it doesnt work if the zipped file is a bunch of zipped files, i have to extract/unzip it to be able to read it...and another problem for CDisplay is if the zipped/rarred file has some corrupted page(s), it hangs up..also solve this problem by extracting/unzipping the file...otherwise it is still the best for me...and way way better than the windows fax viewer...

can't remember if i've posted here or not. I like cdisplayex as it loads faster and smoother than cdisplay, but seems to crash when opening very large archives (>50MB) and happens more often if HD is being accessed during archive loading. One i've got working yesterday (couldn't get it working as it uses DirectX and kept giving out errors) is Hamana ( http://miyano.s53.xrea.com/ ). The website it is on is japanese (i think) but it has an english menus. It uses some cool blending effects to go from one page to the other (you can disable it if you wanted), you can pan, zoom in and out, rotate 3 dimensionally the images, and has the coolest interface.

I also use joytokey to assign keys to a game control pad (specifically a ps2 joypad), so i can navigate about more comfortably than I ever could using a mouse.

I have a sony ebook reader. It's like the best thing ever. I just unzip the chapter on my computer and DL it to the reader, then I can scroll and change pages easily. I can also DL whole series and take it to go on the plane or at work. I recommend them to anyone who likes to read regular books or manga, it's perfect for both. I think they are down to like $300 already.

but how to get them if your in Europe though....

It does look and sound awesome but i'm a little worried about how compatible some files are with it, how much storage there is, and how easy it is to read on it (zoom ability for teeny text).

Zoom in is no problem at all there is a little scroll wheel. The memory is not too big, but there are slots for Sd and Pro Duo. The file compatibility is also amazing, I can look at just about every graphic file. (not PSD or AI) but most Manga comes in Jpeg or PNG anyway and that is no problem to view.
I dunno how you can get it in Europe you should check Sony online store. Telling you, it makes reading manga so much fun!

Just looked at the closest device similar to the ereader (this > http://www.iliadreader.co.uk/product.iLiad_Reader.htm ) and frankly, too darn expensive. Even with the amount of manga yet to be read, not enough to justify the cost. How is the page turning speed, or loading?. I've got one of those dvd players that can also display jpegs, but OMG how slow does it load each page up, it's like i'm on 56k dialup again.

reanimated838uk

That is janky. that thing you link is weak sauce compared to mine. The one I use looads really fast because it uses "E-ink" technology. Basically flashes the text or image onto the screen in a second and it stay there until you flip the page again regardless of battery power. Really sweet tech.

Check it:
link

Edit by mod, edited the link, because it used to brake the page display

Yah seriously, I think everyone will think I sell the thing for a living or something. I just like it a lot because I rarely charge it and it stays good a long time and I can DL manga and text and read it on the go.

No, it doesn't do color......

;DD There are a lot of different programs people use.

I've once tried to use CDisplay and MangaView but it was too difficult.

The program I use to read manga on my computer(s) and laptop(s) is a called PicWalker.

The program is very light; less than 1 MB.

PicWalker can zoom in and out, read zipped and rarred files, move forward, backwards, up and down easily, you can align the picture, do a slide show, etc. There are a lot of other options too.

I'm sincerely grateful for PicWalker; it's made my reading pleasure so much easier, and faster.
