Depends for me. Manga's okay to in public (as long as it's not yaoi/yuri/hentai/ecchi)...but Doujinshi...I wouldn't do that.

Quote from TofuQueen
I don't purposely *not* read manga in public, I just rarely end up with time to read in public at all.
This.
If I'm waiting for a long period of time (usually at an airport) then I'll bring along a book that will last longer.
I think I get more strange looks for reading epic poetry than I do for reading manga

Depends on the manga. If it doesn't have "embarrassing" scenes in it where I'd be mortified if someone looked over my shoulder and saw, I totally will read it on the train or in public ^_^

What's there to be shy about lol. You gotta be a bit insecure if you're somehow worried that others think it's stupid to read manga and see you do it in public? But isn't it popular enough nowadays that reading manga in public is nothing to wonder?
However I don't read manga in public, simply because I always read it from computer. I have no manga to read in public. But it's not like I read books in public either, usually when in public places I have other stuff to do.

I have read manga in public plenty of times before so I don't really mind it, but I usually don't. Because I want to keep the manga that I do have in book format nice and there's too many distractions in public.

I read them in public whenever I go to Border's or Barnes & Nobles, mainly because there are other manga fans out there. The only thing I won't read in public (or on the computer) are shoujo or josei mangas.

I'd probably find it amusing to read something pervy in public. Either someone's going to be very upset about being so nosy, or I'm going to meet a fairly interesting and open-minded individual. But you have to be comfortable enough with yourself to not be embarrassed by it. =)

I wouldn't really read much in public, I rather listen to music for an hour journey then reading. Music seems to stimulate me more don't know why. I personally wouldn't read manga in public because I did once and had random other manga enthusiast talk to me randomly. Sadly I didn't want to know them in a very annoying way, so I decided it would be best to avoid those encounters in the future.

although i'm still in high school, i don't mind reading manga in school or in public...of course, i would have to carefully choose a certain meaningful manga series worthy of my public appearance
to me, manga are as meaningful and valuable as books...some series have amazing plots and moralistic messages that leave such as deep as an impression on you as books do...
therefore, i'm proud of my manga and of reading them in public
