Well I just got back from starbucks and i saw a girl reading a manga "school rumble" I think. Anyways I walked up to her and asked her if she had any idea what an otaku was...after getting a few laughs about some other topics i went on to explain to her what it was and she ended up saying, "if thats what an otaku is then that means I am one" she just didn't know the understanding of the word. Anyways i told her about the forums and how I asked how come otaku girls don't ever try to find otaku guys she said to me "its because im shy and normally when I think of anime/manga lovers (guys) the image of a nerd comes to mind". Anyways after talking to her for a few mins I got her number and MSN name.

Photos she just sent me:

MUAH HAHAHAHAHAHA 😁

OMG I totally know that girl! She just sent me this too!

Hahaha! ('Dis looks shopp'd.) Well, that was a long read. 12 pages of thread...

Anyways, it's been pretty interesting up 'till now... guess you learn something new every day. I guess I'm just kinda unlucky-- the anime burst is kinda growing a little bit in my country now (I'm in Panama. Yeah, where the heck is that... So forgive my bad engrish, pweze.). There's the occasional convention here and there... mostly gaming though. But you always find anime and manga somewhat linked to it.

So well, I guess I fall under the area of "geek/techie" kinda well (people rely on me for their tech discords... even if it's something like their Word text isn't visible, when really it's that their default color was changed to white or something like that while they toyed with color schemes... -.-"). But I've grown with Anime very closely compared to everyone else, and my 'net name was there since I was 9, when I learned about that place called internet, so you can guess how closely attached I am. Even so, I wasn't as into DBZ and stuff like Mecha which you would consider Shounen material... as you might've noticed from my alias, I took a liking more to shoujo. Weird, yeah. And no, I don't wear Abercrombie. 😁 🤣

It's kinda frustrating to get those weird looks from people when you talk about it, though. Just recently I did and prepared a presentation on Visual Novels for literature class (Narcissu, to be specific), and I felt that kinda environment. Later on one of the guys asked... (more like stated) if it was hentai. You can imagine how irked that made me. 🙁

So a girl that actually understands what I'm trying to express, and that shares some sort of interest in it would be a godsend. I haven't met a single one yet... at least not one that isn't 28+. ,_,".I'm kinda young because of my geekiness (I was skipped a couple of grades so I'm younger than your average person, educationally-scaled.).

So for me, it's kind of an illusion right now. I still am kind of amazed with some of the replies in this thread. Rubbing my eyes to confirm I'm not dreaming. It's funny how much I've made myself go through just to understand what to do when confronted with that girl... but that's another story. 🤣

LOL this is more like a thread for "otaku males looking for otaku females"

I'm not that much into anime/manga, and, also, nobody (except my brother) knows I know about this stuff. To be honest, I actually like keeping my "image" of not-nerd in front of others 😀

Well, anyway.. as long as the male otaku does not

  • spend my money on his stuff ** (most important!!! Don't freaking touch my money)
  • work in crap places
  • embarrass himself in public

He's not a bad guy.

Also, I don't like the word otaku either. I associate otaku with moritana's definition. The word geek is horrible too. Geezzzzz. They're just people with interests!!

ALSO watching anime together sounds... kind of dumb to me. Talking about it is sort of dumb too (I could care less which character beats who).

And "There are actually a few definitions of the word Otaku. It's mostly based on where you live." --Kaioh said; (in my opinion) is true too. However... where I live, anime is considered "disgusting". And hardly anyone knows what manga is. They'd say "OMG Look, __ is reading anime".

Therefore, I would not go out with an otaku, because "anime is disgusting" here (and anime is always somehow related to hentai,...). Bringing me to those anime conventions would piss me off the most. I would never go.

But, in the end, if his personality is great, who cares about his (non-illegal) hobbies&interest (that does not affect my money)?

p.s. How did you come up with the "bad boy" image? What the hell.... no

edit Well, a BUNCH of people here are proud of who they are. So that's really great, because eventually they'll find somebody they truly love 🙂 --I mean, because they're being themselves and do not care about the image thing (that I still care about, and I'm blaming it on youth,.. and my high school and my friends)

So it's really area-dependant... I'm kinda intrigued, since even so I don't really care what other people say. If the environment wasn't so "otaku-hostile", would you reconsider that?

I live in a place that anime/manga is looked as childish and pornographic (ugh, about a month when I saw the news... heard an article about pirated movies, turns out some street Barbarossas (Yarrrrr.) were selling hentai under the cover of licensed movies, immediate scandal and an even worsened view on the local anime-fandom community.)

So I kinda get what you mean.

Your money is most important...? Wow....I can't even think of something to reply to that. Where do you get the idea that a guy would date you just so he could use your money to buy things? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? -_-;; Not that it is...but now I have to wonder how old you are.

And I don't think couples talk about "who beats who." What do you think people watch? We talk about philosophical things. And predict what could happen in the next episode. Or blow up because Raki is an idiot.

And even if anime is related to hentai, what's wrong with hentai?? Hentai is hot. 😛 Are you saying it's illegal?? Cuz it's not. 😲

EDIT: Okay, skittles edited their post...and guess I can rest my case. 🙄

I used to like a otaku girl at my school... But I don't think she even cares about me, I have I friend who is also her friend and she tried setting me up with her, but I think she gave up (I didn't even follow that) I also have given up on her too. My sister told me that a kid in Drama likes me, but my sister could be lieing. But the girl she said that likes me is really cute, but I don't think she is a otaku, but I will convert her! Mwahaha! Inless my sister is lieing or I am thinking of the wrong person, then I will go back to the other girl a friend was trying to set me up with.

Ah! No, I'm not saying hentai is illegal. I'm talking about literally non-illegal, as in... murder, stealing, etc. LOL

Money.. sorry, yes... it is the most important, because I worked hard to earn it, and I'd like to keep it for my education. I'm not saying I'm holding it all to be greedy.

looks again yay, cheebs editted her post too. But, gah!! Lemme continue... And I said that if he does not use my money then I'm fine with it ---and majority of guys do not use girls' money. I'm aware of that, and I'm glad that's true.

I'm basing this on my (terrible) experience (in high school), because (in my area) otakus are the guys in the cafeteria staring at their laptops (full of anime, etc.) or talk about this stuff together really loud and they look down on us. "Social rejects". So I would not date an otaku (in my area).

Sadly, I'd have to disagree with skittles's point of view.

I really wouldn't care if that otaku girl of my dreams was considered a social outcast. (heck, if she were viewing anime in her laptop I'd seriously consider it for something long-term, if we get to understand each other well).

It'll sound kinda cheesy, but I think love is much more important than any social status or social opinion, for me. That's just me though, I think I under-appreciate myself a little too much.

Eriol-kun heh, I'm sad about my point of view too. So I'm always happy for those who find true love without caring what others think 🙂 🙂

And I knew people will fire at me once I bring in the whole "image" thing. Yes, I belong to the part of society who cares what others think. Sad, but I'll be lying if I say I don't care.

Well... that's okay; I respect your point of view, we're not all the same. I guess I'm too much of an idealist to think as realistic as that though. ^^;;.

On a side-note, what else do girls find appealing on an "otaku" guy / Anime and Manga fan? Besides what has been mentioned. I've always wondered what things I should simply just leave behind for the sake of things and what I would never accept leaving behind even though I try. (e.g. I let my hair grow long enough just to know how it is to deal with something like that, and I've well... toyed along with those fantasies some "otaku"-girls seem to love nowadays, even if it wasn't serious... 🤣 )

Lolz... It all depends on whether you can show yourself in a respectable manner or not. For those of you younger... just wait until college... or further... like, girls get a bit less uhm... what's the word...? Shallow?

Or if you're lucky, you'll find those kinds of girls in high school....

...or wait. That might not be true. Some people will be shallow for.. like, forever. I guess if you get into a good college, you'll find that nerds or even otakus (I'm using the slightly less harsh term) will be considered less... weird. Hahah.

I still label myself as an otaku... mainly because I'm starting that anime club at my university. XD hahaha...

I would have no problem dating a "normal otaku" guy - in fact it would be cool to share that interest. Doing stuff just for fun, because you enjoy it, & not caring if other people think it's silly/geeky/etc. is a very attractive trait, to me. HOWEVER it would annoy me no end to be around someone who let his enthusiasm for anme/manga/games/whatever get in the way of Real Life.

Examples: Guy does his share of stuff around the house & then spends the rest of the day playing games, no problem. Guy plays games all day & DOESN'T get his share of stuff done, BIG problem. Guy pays bills etc. and uses his extra money to buy Gundam figures or whatever, no problem. Guy can't pay his bills because he's already spent all his money on Gundam figures, BIG problem. You get the idea. 🤣

You captured most of my thoughts so well. 🙂

I picked other.

I don't mind guys that are interested in anime. If a guy thinks anime is his life, then that's a bit of a turn off to me. Though maybe when I was 14 or 15 I would have thought that would be great. Now... not so much.

I just want a guy who I can hang out with who wants to do spontaneous things like jumping in the car and driving to the beach for the weekend. Hes gotta be there for me, too. The general "good guy" stuff. (It would also help if he has a motorcycle... I can dream!) If he happens to like anime and is all those things, that's great. I don't consider myself an "otaku." My interest in manga and anime now is just casual. Friends, school, and work are more important in my life.

Also, sorry, but the majority of guys I've seen at anime conventions are not that cute. Plus some of them are kind of... socially inept or something? Confidence brings you the ladies, guys! One of my ex's is maybe too good an example of this. 🤣 Some of the guys are just... I don't know how to explain... creepy? Weird? Maybe only 25% of the guys I've liked or dated had any interest in anime. Probably not even that much.

I always hate seeing that answer. Mostly because I live at the Beach (Seriously, I am two blocks away from Ocean water), and it's actually not as fun as most would think.

Sure its nice for a vacation, but living here is quite boring.

And yeah, its quite Ironic that a trip for me is traveling inland for fun. Very ironic. 😀
