inen manga, and my favourite genres are psychological, drama and slice-of-life, but I do enjoy action, sci-fi and fantasy series as well.
I want to try and avoid anything like Fruits Basket, so anything that isn't as romance-based, I'd like to hear about it. I've read a tiny bit of Beauty Pop, which seems pretty decent...

C-Blossom is an atypical action Shoujo, and you can always try the works of MIDORIKAWA Yuki. I haven't read them myself, but they gain some praise from Seinen readers.

Definitely second Midorikawa Yuki's work...specially Hiiro no Isu , Hotarubi no Mori E and Natsume Yuujinchou.

Things I like in manga are action, ecchi, yuri, hentai, badass female characters, and maybe some fantasy/sci-fi element (manga can bore me if the setting is too realistic). If someone knows a josei manga that could maybe interest, me I'll be glad to listen. Right now I'm not sure one exists.

Not too much but still...
Satanister
Tokage

Hey, those two actually look quite nice at first glance. It's a shame they don't seem to be very active in terms of scanslations. I'll add them to my wish list and look into them if scanslations pick up though. Thanks a lot.

And Im just thinking, if you guys know some shoujo manga that fit my taste, I'd hear those as well. I've read very little of that demographic. Though I have read some as opposed to nothing.

Okay, I know a lot of people here are yuri fans, so I'm going to tentatively ask for your recommendations... 😳

I mostly read shojo and yaoi ~ I like it best when it's a school setting, with fantasy or comedy...

Preferably not an all-girl school (I'd like there to be some male characters) and nothing too sexy...

And if anyone knows of any manga that contains yaoi and yuri, that'd be even better. 😃

You could try these. Not sure how close they are to what you want.

Gurenki - Most everything you're looking for: school, fantasy, comedy. It is a little ecchi though.
Girl Friends - school, some light comedy. There's are occasional male characters as well.
Sasame Kikoto - school, comedy. Some male characters.
Strawberry Shake - comedy. Not set in a school (confused as to why it's marked as school life currently), but it has a shoujo feel to it and very little ecchi stuff.
Epitaph - doesn't have much of what you're looking for, but nothing you'd really object to either.

Most of the other ones I'd suggest would be too ecchi, I think.

The demographic I tend to avoid is josie because it seems to be shoujo without the comedy, and comedy is the only reason I read shoujo. My favorite demographics are shounen and seinen. Things I like bout these demographics are: dumb main characters, freedom, weird shit/fantasy, humor, action, blood/gore, art, and horror (although not necessarily all together). Things I dislike about shoujo: characters that overreact to everything, characters who lack personality, focus on romance, typical art style. The shoujos I do like are host club and Hana Kimi and Fruits Basket (although the later parts tend to be annoying). If anyone can recommend some stuff for me to read I'd be very happy 😀

Gotta say I read pretty much everything (and I mean everything 😀 ) that passes my way....unless the cover or description just have "I suck" written all over it. 🙄

Hmm....but I must say the totally overdoing it, sticky cotton candy shoujo stories are not for me. Ugh...to much cuteness. Really just wants me to read something dirty and hardcore afterwards. 🤣 🙄

Ah, yes....I am a (fellow?) freak. 😁

edit: just noticed I kind of missed the subject, but oh well

Sooooo, I chose Shoujo, because its the only one I get really annoyed with. My favorite genere is Seinen, but I like Shounen a lot, too.

Shoujo I liked;
Skip Beat
Glass Mask
Beauty Pop
Arisa
Mixed Vegetables
Princess
and
Tokyo Crazy Paradise
There are a couple others, but, these are my favorites.
I have also read a bunch of random horror shoujo, but I don't think they count.

As for ones I tried but disliked, there are waaayyy too many to list.

For anyone who dislikes bl but likes shounen/seinen I would recommend Madness It's main focus is on action and plot not romance, and there are tits.

@Everyone who wanted to try a shoujo:

These all have more going on than just romance and manage to avoid most of the usual cliches:

Aishiteruze Baby
Beauty Is the Beast
Flat (AOGIRI Natsu)
Flower of Life
Fujoshi Kanojo
H2O
Karakuri Odette
Land of the Blindfolded
Natsume Yuujinchou
Ouran High School Host Club
Safe Again Today
The Scarlet Chair
Shiawase Kissa Sanchoume

@Everyone who wanted to try a josei:

I think that Gokusen* is the easiest to get into. It's very different from (much better than) the J-drama, so don't let your perceptions of that turn you off.

Other good josei:
Ashita no Ousama+
Baby Pop
Honey and Clover
Hyakkiyakou Shou
Nikoniko Nikki
Nodame Cantabile+
Paradise Kiss+
Seigi no Mikata
Taiyou no Ichiwaru*
Usagi Drop*

bold = Highly recommended

  • = Especially recommended for those going from seinen to josei
  • = Especially recommended for those going from shoujo to josei

Wasn't really looking for yaoi, but I think I may give this one a shot now. Thanks.

Thanks for the recs! Midorikawa certainly looks interesting, I'll check out something of hers tonight!
Also thanks to Bedob! I've added those suggestions to my wishlist...

I read all of them except Yaoi/BL, Shoujo, and Josei. I'll never read a Yaoi/BL manga, I only finished reading one Shoujo (Which was horrible) and the rest I dropped before the end because they all had an Idiot Plot mixed with poorly written drama. I've never read a Josei manga before, so I'll try reading one of those.

**I tend to avoid shoujo and josei simply because I find them annoyingly girly - I am a girl...

But I read at the moment Sakurahime Kaden - I watched as a little girl KKJ anime and like the artbooks of Tanemura sensei so since this is a new series by her I gave it a try...
I also liked Ai Hime - Ai to Himegoto...The main guy character was really cool 😁

What I simply never going to read - and watch - is mecha...Not even trying... 🤢

Any other genres are welcome by me - even hentai, ecchi, BL/GL 😀

If someone wishes to try out BL I would say shounen ai by Yumeka Sumomo, Homerun Ken, Yamagata Satomi, Kunieda Saika and the manga Okujou no Bai-Bai by Kyuugou are very cute and worth to read. They have no sexual content so it's suitable for guys too 😀 **
