Pimp My Demographic!

I avoid reading Yaoi/shounen-ai and Yuri/shoujo-ai and Hentai.
I can read anything as long as its not those three genres/demographics.
It's not that I have never read them, because I did and used to be a fan of those three, but began correcting my ways and began feeling disgusted with them so since I decided to quit, I haven't read any of those genres.

Even though I chose Yaoi, I'm really not into seinen (more for the serious ones). Not that don't like it, but I couldn't take the "mess up with your mind" elements in it. But I can read anything but tend to avoid these 2.
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

Nice idea, but I feel like this thread might be more helpful if people who don't normally like a demographic or genre posted the few exceptional titles that they enjoyed from that genre. People like and dislike things for so many reasons. I don't know if I can rise up to the challenge of tailoring recommendations for each person -- especially when what I think is "good" is colored by my own preferences.
But I'll try. 😀

I've had manga I've read and enjoyed from every one of these demographics with the exception of josei. I've never read a josei manga. No josei manga has ever seemed remotely interesting to me.
My favorite of the four demographic is seinen (of the poll choices I'd have picked yuri though; but I don't consider it or yaoi demographics). Things I like in manga are action, ecchi, yuri, hentai, badass female characters, and maybe some fantasy/sci-fi element (manga can bore me if the setting is too realistic). If someone knows a josei manga that could maybe interest, me I'll be glad to listen. Right now I'm not sure one exists.
You might like these action josei:
No ecchi, yuri, or hentai in them, though. Sorry. 🤣

Not much of a Seinen reader~
The only Seinen I've read so far that I can actually remember is Nephylym. And I guess it's satisfactory.
Recommendations ?
I noticed that your lists are mostly shoujo, so I picked out some seinen with romance/slice-of-life themes.

Okay, so I'll start us off! Since this is my thread, anyway, and it would be weird if I didn't contribute. >_>;
The genre that I tend to avoid most is shounen. Weirdly enough, I read a lot of seinen, but I think my initial experiences with the shounen genre were disappointing, because I tried series like "Naruto," which (no disrespect to its fans, seriously) just put me off. I developed a feeling - probably unfair - that shounen was very cliched or just filled with lots of action sequences and little plot. I prefer seinen because it tends to have stronger plots. Yes, I'm prejudiced! THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO PROVE ME WRONG. Actually, please prove me wrong. I don't like being prejudiced! Because I know it's unfair. 😀
So, um. Can anyone recommend a gateway shounen manga to me? Something that avoids my squicks - too many action sequences, repetitive storylines, wildly popular cliches, etc. A thoughtful shounen manga, that is more like a seinen manga. Or maybe even a sensitive shounen manga, on the subtler or gentler side, because I also love shoujo/josei and wouldn't mind a shounen manga that shares some of their characteristics.
Think you can help me? Then, please do. And tell me about the genre(s) you avoid, as well.
See everyone on the other (more enlightened, more unbiased) side!

Well yuri get my vote and shoujo annoys the heck out of me even though there some (shoujo) that are still interesting but I always avoid these two.
Can't help you with yuri because none of the ones I've read have been memorable...
But shoujo:
Aishiteruze Baby
Karakuri Odette
Natsume Yuujinchou
Penguin Revolution
Safe Again Today
I'll see if I can answer any of the other requests after a break.

Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the suggestions. Years ago, I watched the Gokusen anime and liked it (mostly just watched it cause it was on TV and was anime though). I don't know if I'd read the manga though.
I skimmed through the first couple chapters of the other two. Both have nice art and seemed to contain good action scenes. Don't seem quite in line with my tastes though. Too many pretty boys, not enough girls. I saw some things in Amatsuki that might have been female though, so I suppose it might be worth a try eventually. Not sure though.
And to help anyone who might recommend me some other josei get a better idea of what I like, here are a few highlights for each of the "demographics" in the poll:
Shounen:
Claymore
Kurohime
Vampire Juujikai
Seienen:
Himegami
Hoshi no Samidare
Gunslinger Girl
Shoujo: Don't read much. These are the only ones I'm currently reading:
Bara no Maria (currently listed incorrectly as shounen)
Anonymous
and a bunch of shoujo yuri stuff like Gokujou Drops and Strawberry Shake
Yaoi: All I've ever liked is a number of hentai one shots featuring cross-dressing shotacon (trap stuff). I won't name specific titles.
Yuri:
Girl Friends
Gurenki
Octave
Tree + Taco = Tree taco.

There still hasn't been much in the way of recommending light BL titles. That's what I chose cause I read pretty much everything, but sometimes even series that are a bit too explicit for me.
I'd really like some recommendations of BL that's sweet but not saccharine, not incest, not a Harlequin novel, that doesn't involve rape and torture and stuff.
I enjoyed Let Dai, but there was lots of romance in that, so I kind of think of that as the exception that proves the rule.
Goraihou Gakuen e Youkoso! is interesting and has good characters, but the only "BL" so far is that the dumb treasurer/secretary Naoki has a man-crush on Shinya cause he's so perfect.
Kinou Nani Tabeta? and Antique Bakery are both very interesting, and I like them a lot. There's not really much romance in either, though.
Legal Drug has a good amount of romance and plot, and since their relationship isn't really dysfunctional, it's pretty much what I'm looking for.
I really prefer GL, but I'd like to have more of a rounded manga diet, so I'm not being hypocritical when I think yaoi fangirls who think yuri is "grosssssss two girls" are lame.
Am I being too exclusive? Too vague? ><;

I voted for Shojo. I might've picked Yaoi instead though, but Yaoi is a genre I'd rather not get into at all, even if you guys recommended me something that might be to my taste.
So yeah, Shojo it is. I mainy read Seinen manga, and my favourite genres are psychological, drama and slice-of-life, but I do enjoy action, sci-fi and fantasy series as well.
I want to try and avoid anything like Fruits Basket, so anything that isn't as romance-based, I'd like to hear about it. I've read a tiny bit of Beauty Pop, which seems pretty decent...

Okay, for everyone who listed BL as there most disliked demographic, I recommend starting out with some very mild shounen-ai that's actually more of a shoujo manga. I love shounen-ai so I'm sure I have some titles that someone out there would like:
1001 Nights<second that
Kiss Me Princess One of the best BL manga's I've ever read, because it actually has a really good plot and I'm just a sucker for historical manga 😀
Eerie Queerie! Especially recommended if you like supernatural
Gohou Drug Completely second that, even though it's on hiatus 😢
Gorgeous Carat Again, if you like historical.
Lost Boys Peter Pan with a twist. If you like fantasy
Sequence For those of us who like vampires 🤨
Silver Diamond One of my absolute favourites. Again, for those of you wo like fantasy
Time Lag The first shounen-ai I've ever read. It's really cute
Yami no Matsuei You have to look really hard to find the BL, but the characters are all great and so is the story.
Koori no Mamono no Monogatari From the same mangaka as Silver Diamond. This one is my absolute favourite, even though there is hardly any BL in it. But I guess that's why I highly recommend this one 😛

The time of reckoning will soon be up on us...

I tend to avoid yaoi completely (and require no recommendations)...so I guess it would be shoujo.

C-Blossom is an atypical action Shoujo, and you can always try the works of MIDORIKAWA Yuki. I haven't read them myself, but they gain some praise from Seinen readers.
