never. I mean seriously NEVER, he's magically a shota, he's not going to grow up.

Perfect Girl Evolution... 28 volumes so far, it's a complete mystery.
Goong uggggggggggggggggh
I'm also kind of surprised Skip Beat! is still ongoing, but I love it so I'm not surprised it's so popular. It's just that the pace is absolutely glacial... 80% of the content lately seems to be long, drawn out monologues spliced with character's long, drawn out reactions, or otherwise pointless exchanges or repeating of things that we already know or are extremely obvious. The mangaka thinks virtually nothing of using up a whole page or a double spread on a single reaction or something that has very little importance - it's nice to have that impact but I think she devalues it by using it so often. It all comes together well when the books are compiled and you have a marathon but reading the chapters one by one as they come out is excrutiating, and she always cops out after setting up a marvellous cliffhanger the previous chapter. Clearly it works since even I'm a bit fanatical but doesn't mean it isn't frustrating.
Ugh that turned into a rant. I'm sorry 🤢

I agree about Perfect Girl Evolution! I read like, the first 25 chapters trying to figure out why the hell is the so popular and still didn't get it. I cringed every time I looked at any of the males, they were all so freakishly ugly and disturbing! Plus the nosebleed thing just disgusted me and did not amuse me at all.
Also Kimi ni Todoke. I'm sorry to all the rabid fans out there, but I forced myself through 15 chapters of this waiting for it to get better.... and it never did. I just do not see why this is so hugely popular. The characters (especially the male lead) are bland, predictable, and difficult to relate to because they're so painfully cliched. Sawako is like Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket: obscenely nice, innocent and annoyingly nosy (let's be friend with everybody!), except without the charming secondary cast and magical zodiac drama that made Fruits Basket enjoyable.
I also agree with Bokura ga Ita. Honestly, I watched the anime and loved it (though I wished she'd picked the friend and I found her a bit annoyingly whiny and wish-washy and even a little hypocritically preachy--his ex-girlfriend is dead, not like she can steal him back, so why pick at old wounds?). When I tried the manga after finishing the anime I wanted to kill Takahashi. How can she still be so indecisive and caught up in the past?! Move on already!
Gamaran... I honestly really liked this when it first came out but I felt like it seemed horribly amateur in terms of art, plot, and characters. I thought it wouldn't last long (maybe max out around five volumes) but it's still going strong... haven't read it in ages though.
Dengeki Daisy I used to keep up with religiously but then I got kinda bored and haven't been keeping up... I'm surprised it's kept up for so long considering how flimsy the initial premise/plot was to being with. I'm not sure why kind of drama the mangaka is forcing into it to keep it going since the whole "Daisy" thing was pretty weak to being with.

Er... I think some people are misunderstanding my thread --just because you are surprised to see a manga series still continuing does not mean that you have to dislike it. For example, I liked Death Note, 07 Ghost, and Kimi ni Todoke, but it still doesn't stop me from being surprised that they continued as long as they did/are. They just didn't seem like they would get that long or that big. (Although with Shugo Chara and Perfect Girl Evolution, I definitely was surprised to see them continue because I didn't think they were very good at all.)
I definitely agree with Bakuman and Bokura Ga Ita. I also agree with Vampire Knight --I read this from the beginning and I remember the first three chapters and thinking the whole manga would end in a couple volumes, so I was pretty lukewarm to it then. I stopped reading after chapter 3, probably because the next release didn't come out for a while or something. But what, now it's still going on? What the hell?
I'm not so sure about the whole Naruto/Bleach/One Piece lot. I mean, they've been popular for so long (and Naruto/One Piece started years before I really got into manga), so I'm not surprised an already-popular series is still running. Jump likes to stretch the rubber band as far as possible. I guess if I started those series before they reached like volume 5 I would be surprised, but by the time I gave them a shot at all, they were already well past a hundred chapters.
But yeah, definitely was surprised at Detective Conan. I mean, when I first started reading that I thought it was near its end anyways because it had so many chapters even when I was a kid...but it's still going on. I mean, at one point the plot just totally halted and eventually it would be like... every 100 chapters, a new, small movement in plot.
