I actually buy the manga that's released in my country, because I want to own it in a legitimate and tangible way. Also, it's less stressful to carry manga around than it is to carry my laptop.

I buy manga if/when I can, but sometimes it just isn't possible, and my dad doesn't always approve ^,^ So I stick to downloading most of the time.

Normally, I don't buy manga unless I find a particular manga to be interesting or if it hasn't been scanlated.

I buy a bunch of licensed series...but I buy a lot more in Japanese. Not that I have a lot of money or anything. But that's where most of my paycheck goes.

I own lots of licensed manga. But I recently started collecting japanese manga magazines and manga in Japanese. I have a total of 35 tankoubans. I've been collecting Nakayoshi, Ribon, and Ciao magazine since February 2007. And I just started collecting CoroCoro magazine at the beginning of this year. I don't know how much english manga I own, but I think I have about 230.

I used to buy quite a lot of manga now I mainly buy ones I can't find on the internet. Over the past few years i've bought about 100 tanks, and i wonder where my money's disappearing to!

I have about 10 volumes.
Mostly stuff I really enjoyed reading scans of.
I don't have the means to buy any more as of yet, but I know eventually I will accumulate an extensive collection, which will only grow as I get a job after I graduate.

I think it is worth pointing out how very backwards some publishers think about "criminals" scanlating their property.
Were it not for illegal scans I would've never even known what manga is, let alone actually buy some or plan to buy a lot more.

If anything, because of scanlators there is a whole new demographic of potential manga customers on the international level. Example:
Even if only 5% of North American manga readers buy (most) what they read or read. Those people are a market that would not be there were it not for scanlators.
Note: 5% of North American manga readers today is a whole lot more that 100% of North American manga readers before scanlations and the internet.

Panzers ain't as cheap as they used to be...
World domination will have to wait a bit longer, no? 🤣

Since moving to Japan my collection has been increasing a bit more than I wanted it to.

glances at piles of Aria and Natsume Yuujinchou

You know what? It's probably a good thing that I can't read if it doesn't have furigana.

For some reason, manga is quite populare here in Montreal, Canada.
I bought a bunch of mangas (The Dragonball searies. Man that just defined my childhood). But usually I got to the library for my hardcopy mangas. They have a HUGE collection there, and I just read stuff there or check it out. Theres only a select few series I absolutly love, those I buy for the few memorable volumes.

Overall id say 70%is online while 30% is from library/bought.

Hopefully I didn't already respond to this topic. It's not on the last few pages anyway. >_>

I'm a bit disenchanted with virtually all of the US manga licensing companies for numerous reasons, including but not limited to poor and rushed translations, censorship, and inconsistency issues. As such, I don't buy US releases of manga, but I do regularly buy Japanese releases.
