Oneshot or Series?
(77 posts, 8324 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Manga General
Short series. Long series often start to drag, besides, I like complete stories, and long series are usually either old or ongoing, though there are some pleasant exceptions. So: 2-10 volumes.
I still read oneshots, though, I like being able to finish a manga in one sitti...
why don't you comment on series?
(33 posts, 3391 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Manga General
Lazy. Also, when it comes to less popular series, I often look for a discussion, and when there isn't any, somehow it makes me think writing comments is pointless.
Though I write comments when I'm really in love with a manga and want more people to read it. I'm the kind of...
Why do chicks in Shojo Manga have no tits?
(202 posts, 53486 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Shoujo/Josei
Still reading this and... how is "small breasts" = "plain looking"? O__o Fashion models don't have DDD chests either.
On a side note, I'm also curious who so many shoujo heroines seem to have loose shoulder length hair. Maybe it's a cultural difference but I see very few ...
Manly woman or womanly man
(17 posts, 5068 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in I'm Looking For...
It seems like I go around recommending this manga in every thread XD but well it fits your second request. Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan
This is a manga with a male lead who is often mistaken for a woman, he uses it for his advantage sometimes. He is straight (there is no actual...
manga about gender bender with the ff. genre

Fantasy & action in a historical (mixed alternative Victorian) setting plus gender bender: Ningyou Kyuutei Gakudan
arrogant FEMALE lead

I'd say Alice from Pandora Hearts is pretty arrogant... in a good way. She is the second important character after the protagonist.
Manga with indifferent lead?

Freezing ? Sort of.
Also Claymore, Claire seems emotionless most of the time.

Poor Boy, Rich girl Pairing
(16 posts, 10562 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in I'm Looking For...
I'm sure I've seen some of this in urban fantasy shoujo where the rich heroine is lonely and bored and then a supernatural guy appears and adventure begins... but dammit the only one I can remember now is Shinobi Life which has already been mentioned. But maybe it will sp...

Probably because they expected that I had read it already ;D
(Which I have.)
Thank you : )

Yes, it's popular, but it fits so well. ^__^ I'm glad I looked at this thread anyway because I love this type of heroine and I'm going to read World Embryo now.

I've seen this phrase in a discussion of shoujo cliches and realized I simply must have some. ^__^
Even though it was labeled a cliche, I can barely remember a single title where this angle was explored. All that comes to mind is Zero no Tsukaima (which is not quite the ...
Why do chicks in Shojo Manga have no tits?
(202 posts, 53486 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Shoujo/Josei
+1 on sex appeal. It's mostly about character types. Even in shounen, there is this trope\cliche where the sexually confident, outgoing, sensual woman is tall and has large breasts, while the short and flat-chested girl might be a true warrior but she is insecure or dense...

Favorite Shoujo/Josei Mangaka

Yuki Kaori definitely. If I were a mangaka, I'd love to create exactly the kind of manga she creates. Which is a roundabout way of saying we seem to share a lot of preferences, fetishes, and favorites.
Worst Shoujo Cliche!
(531 posts, 157623 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Shoujo/Josei
Some said there is an abundance of hot-looking, hot-tempered shoujo girls - where, oh where? I want some.

As for the Worst Shoujo Cliche, I have two in competition with each other:
- Everywoman heroine, or, rather Everygirl: average in every possible way, lacking any talen...
Realism or Fantasy?
(55 posts, 7424 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in Shoujo/Josei
Leaning towards fantasy. Realism in manga often produces characters and relationships that seem too down to earth for my tastes, and their romance lacks a certain high tension and dramatic zeal.
So... Hwang Mi Ri...

It was one of the most interesting threads ever. I'm not an aspiring manga artist but I was always interested in the details of their work.
I wonder if her manga is not that popular in Korea and if it's truly produced by a group of people in a purely mercenary way--why wo...

Ah but there is a difference between a girly looking boy and a somewhat feminine pretty boy aka bishounen. ^__^ It relies heavily on taste, of course, but in my opinion the example would be something like this:

girly looking boy (the brunette)

Thanks! urdzy was right, it's that one, pity it doesn't seem to be scanlated.
But Corsair looks great, putting it on my list. I just love this type of bishounen.

female master & supernatural assistant or guardian (like Hellsing)
(4 posts, 1446 views) Posted: over 13 years ago by Unknown in I'm Looking For...
I can't believe there isn't any thread related to this. ^__^ Well I found one but it was more about BDSM relationships which isn't what I mean.
What I'm looking for is something like Hellsing: where there is a female master and a supernatural assistant, or servant, or gua...

Yes so much. Those are often my favorites, especially if they have a somewhat edgy personality that contradicts their lovely looks. I actually prefer a bad boy who looks like a lady XD.

My theory is unoriginal: this is a kind of "fetish" fanservice. As in, this type isn't...

I can't believe no one said:
Shakugan no Shana
Manga, anime, novels. She has long dark hair (unless in her battle form), is tsundere, loli... in short she's like Alice's long lost twin sister, except she's less outgoing. There is romance, too.
