All it does is generate an .ass file. The focus of Aegisub is actually the typesetters, who have the do signs and stuff like that. Ever notice how signs are slanted, different sizes, fading in and out, etc? It's possible to do it with the .ass format, and Aegisub makes it...

What are you talking about? You don't have to edit each frame. That's madness. Subtitles are done through timecodes. They last from time x to time y. You don't manually put them in frame by frame...
