Group Links Update 2
(45 posts, 4251 views) Posted: 255d 22h, 17m ago by Hinokai in News
You don't really need to put a face on anything, it's obviously Crunchyroll considering the timing. Gotta protect those licenses to put on a good impression for the new investors. ...

What is this, the DMCA equivalent of a Pay-up-or-else scheme? Send a ridiculous notice and then go 'Oh, but we can begrudgingly accept you removing all links from your site'.
How absurd. ...

Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing
(77 posts, 8281 views) Posted: 460d 2h, 24m ago by Hinokai in News
Well, in my mind it is that 2D. Scanlation groups are not entitled to whine about Mangafox taking their work and proftting off it because they don't own or have any right whatsoever to that work.

And no, scanlation is not a grey area. It's illegal. You can' ...

You misunderstand the point of my posts.
I have no issue with Sura's Place or how it was operated, on the contrary, I find the amount of releases to be incredibly impressive and the loss of such a group to be damaging. What I take issue with is not the group i ...
Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing
(77 posts, 8281 views) Posted: 460d 14h, 44m ago by Hinokai in News
I just draw issue with the fact that 'online readers stealing from scanlators' is the far more prevalent line as opposed to 'online readers stealing from the mangaka', when really, the latter is the only one that is true, and that's why I' ...
Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing

A site about scanlation is best suited to a discussion of it's ethics, is it not?
Not to mention it's specifically on topic as the news post and Sura's Place cites Mangafox hosting releases, which is my main discussion point, and I haven't been p ...
Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing
(77 posts, 8281 views) Posted: 460d 16h, 31m ago by Hinokai in News
Many mangaka (and content creators in any medium) consider illegal reproduction of their creation to be disrespectful as well. Why are scanlators more important than the people who make the medium we consume? ...
Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing
(77 posts, 8281 views) Posted: 460d 16h, 41m ago by Hinokai in News
The day scanlator entitlement reaches a level where they have to wrap a mangaka's work in elaborate DRM in order to get their ego fix is a day when we should all pack up and move on to a different medium because nobody will be doing it for the love of ...
Sura's Place/JanimeS Closing
(77 posts, 8281 views) Posted: 460d 20h, 46m ago by Hinokai in News
Of course, it takes work to produce a scanlation, but it takes far more work to produce the original manga in the first place. Yet I rarely see a group up in arms that Mangafox is illegally profiting of of the original authors work, it's usually that Mangafox is pro ...

Shame to lose an old and productive group like this.
I always find it a little hypocritical when people condemn online readers or download sites for hosting their scanlations when they're hosting the creator's work illegally to begin with though. ...
New Poll - Bad Spelling/Grammar
(81 posts, 7859 views) Posted: 616d 21h, 0m ago by Hinokai in News
If you riddle your release with typos, grammar mistakes, or worst of all, incomprehensible sentences, then you probably shouldn't be scanlating in the first place.

Everyone makes mistakes, so sure, I'm not saying that an error here and there isn' ...
:: Mediocrity is recruiting ::
(1 posts, 526 views) Posted: 1680d 2h, 5m ago by Hinokai in Recruitment
Well, as the topic states, I am recruiting for my small group (read: just me at the moment).

I'm not especially good with words, so bear with me.
Just like almost every other group out there I'm looking for a J to E translator.
There's a few things I' ...

Typesetter looking for people to work with.
(1 posts, 541 views) Posted: 1773d 14h, 57m ago by Hinokai in Recruitment
Hello, I've been leeching scans for a while now and I decided that I may as well return the favor to the community, and since I have an abundance of free time for a while, I decided now was the time to do it.

I have moderate ability as a typesetter but I'll b ...
Announcing History! Inside Scanlation!

Not necessary, maybe, but its the best way for people to see it, a lot of people may only go straight to the new releases (I know I do sometimes).

Not like it hampers your browsing in anyway. Great site too. ...

No, they hadn't approached Viz yet, like I said, someone blew the lid off before they could do so...

I seriously doubt this plan will go into motion anytime soon, someone out there blew the lid off this thing and exposed it to everyone. Obviously, Mangahelpers is going to push back on these plans. So the "waiting for viz's take ...
Viz taking over scanlated manga?

Well, most of all, Viz's response, along with some more details on things. They need to have an open discussion with people or something, maybe that would help them keep some of their userbase if people new exactly what would happen. ...

I'm pretty sure that even though they'll start with mainly Viz stuff, they want to get their hands on anything they can license, and to use as many scanlations (that are volunteered by anyone who volunteers them, note - not paid for) and then make big pro ...
Viz taking over scanlated manga?

If they weren't selling anything, why would they list online scanlations as competition on page 19? Why do they comment on how they intend on getting licenses to make the scanlations legal to sell? Why do they use data on read and downloaded scans as the ...
