Low-rated manga
(12 posts, 1940 views) Posted: 1627d 23h, 10m ago by pnyxtr in I'm Looking For...
I'm not quite down with Arigatou being a masterpiece, but that's more a personal thing. It's good, no doubt about that.

Sakuran is so totally awesome that it's simply impossible it didn't get a continuation. Maybe when she gets less bus ...
Female-Oriented Ero-Manga

I'm not sure sure I want to agree that it's josei (more like unisex), and it's less graphic than I think you're asking for, but check out Dounika Naru Hibi if you haven't already.

Site Poll - Chat Box 155 - Choosing an Honorific
(50 posts, 4608 views) Posted: 1708d 23h, 19m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
Even though I've done little to nothing to deserve it, being addressed with -sensei would be a well-needed ego boost.

-sama I've already been called loads of times, and I don't see what's so fun about that. ...
Does anyone want an app that checks mangareader.net for new/unread chapters?
(7 posts, 2579 views) Posted: 1719d 0h, 37m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
Seems like it could be useful, but I'm personally not that interested.

I simply made an RSS reader to watch this place along with a couple of others for new stuff (it's real easy with python, you should try it). It's a bit more user friendly to get both an ...
I'm looking for a MENTAIKO picture?
(2 posts, 4683 views) Posted: 1719d 0h, 45m ago by pnyxtr in Yaoi/Yuri
Okay, I just saw the subject, and had to see what kind of pervert wanted a picture of mentaiko (meaning, the food). I'm a bit disappointed. ...
Security Cameras
(23 posts, 1456 views) Posted: 1719d 1h, 10m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
I build security cameras (well, in a sense, the ones I build are more likely to be for security at an airport or border or something, though, they're quite expensive). After I started doing that, I got a lot more aware of cameras everywhere.

And seriously, you we ...
Supererogate
(1 posts, 505 views) Posted: 1761d 21h, 2m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
Now, this isn't strictly manga related to begin with, but it could be.
The thing is that dictionary.com tells me one of the words that are up for deletion from Collins Dictionary is "Supererogate". And seriously, if that wouldn't work as a manga tit ...
The current state of "cleaning" in scanlation
(17 posts, 3304 views) Posted: 1761d 21h, 21m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
Quote from Grumpy
Screen tones are not textures. They're side effects caused by the printers. If you look at works by the author in original BEFORE the print, you'll notice that they often have gray gradients instead of dotted screen tones.

That is mo ...
Ordering from YESASIA?
(3 posts, 1240 views) Posted: 1763d 10h, 16m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
I've ordered from them three times (I think it was), and IIRC, I've seen both shrinkwrapped and not. So it might depend on how YesAsia themselves get the books delivered.

I have no real complaints, the thing that keeps me from using them again is that ...
The current state of "cleaning" in scanlation
(17 posts, 3304 views) Posted: 1763d 10h, 35m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
I think that kind of heavy filtering looks like arse, but it's almost always done on series I care very little about (or actively loathe), so it's never been much of a bother for me.

If I happen to try to "train" a new-ish editor who's only tried c ...
Josei with a dark touch
(6 posts, 1439 views) Posted: 1830d 21h, 3m ago by pnyxtr in I'm Looking For...
I'd say that's at least a fourth of all josei I've ever seen. In the other three fourths, dark things (in some sense) usually happen to the hero/heroine in the course of the manga. Just read a bunch at random, your hit rate will be very good.

Cleaning: To Denoise or Not to Denoise!
(15 posts, 5810 views) Posted: 1838d 20h, 31m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
Quote from Toto
If I had an option for which image quality I'd see in a release, This would win hands down compared to the denoised version

You know, now that I actually looked at it, even that first example was obviously "denoised" in some way ...
Whose your favorite Ho-kago Tea Time member?
(8 posts, 1272 views) Posted: 1838d 20h, 39m ago by pnyxtr in K-On!
Indeed, Mio. Because she apparently sucks less than me at bass. (Not a very difficult thing to manage, though.) ...
Cleaning: To Denoise or Not to Denoise!
(15 posts, 5810 views) Posted: 1851d 23h, 34m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
Denoising of mag scans looks like ass at least 75% of the time, regardless of plugin/program used. I even made one myself that looks better than those, but it too looked like crap, so I scrapped that project.
As a reader, I'd much rather have speckled scans ...
Similar to the works of Asano Inio
(9 posts, 2706 views) Posted: 1857d 2h, 36m ago by pnyxtr in I'm Looking For...
I'll throw in Yasashii Watashi, for no other reason than that it's a personal favourite, and only slightly less so than Solanin. ...
What do the recent war crimes by the US in the middle east say about the us?

Quote from APOKOLYPES
woa! woa! eek - hold on here, first of all incidents like this should in no way characterize service members of the US armed forces as a whole

How safe is Japan for a lone gaijin woman, seriously?
(21 posts, 3415 views) Posted: 1898d 20h, 0m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
Hmm, it's weird. Now I feel almost guilty after a tsunami actually did hit. Even though I was merely stating the obvious.

The World sure has a way of sidestepping your expectations. ...
What do the recent war crimes by the US in the middle east say about the us?
(21 posts, 1612 views) Posted: 1898d 22h, 53m ago by pnyxtr in Adult (18+)
I think you misunderstood me. I did not mean all things are okay just because everyone used to do it when they were young and stupid. I just mean that, it's not a black and white issue. Both sides are usually at some kind of fault, and even the indignant bystande ...
Online RAW manga stores
(3 posts, 2306 views) Posted: 1901d 21h, 43m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
Seriously. Don't write RAW as if it has some kind of special meaning. (Well, it does have a kind of special meaning, which is: a file format.) Also, raws means the scans, not the books.

And now that we've cleared that up, I recommend bk1, if you know a ...
What do the recent war crimes by the US in the middle east say about the us?
(21 posts, 1612 views) Posted: 1901d 21h, 52m ago by pnyxtr in Adult (18+)
I thought the US was into that business right from the start. But I guess it doesn't count unless it's recognised nation against nation. (It's only ethnic cleansing, when you slaughter undesirable people from your own country.)

And though I say it that ...
[HELP] Scan manga with EPSON V30
(1 posts, 1248 views) Posted: 1923d 8h, 12m ago by pnyxtr in Chatter Box
It's a given that you need different settings when using a different scanner. Even scanners of different models from the same manufacturer (and I almost exclusively use Canons) give very different results.

I have no idea about the features of that particular ...
User ratings
(15 posts, 1648 views) Posted: 1941d 1h, 33m ago by pnyxtr in Manga General
The distribution and number of votes say a lot more than a single weighted average, so I guess I can look at that sometimes.

In order to know what not to waste time reading, though. If something has 4711 votes of 10, and then 42 1s, it's most likely for a crowd ...
Contemporary Japanese novels?
(24 posts, 2313 views) Posted: 1968d 15h, 39m ago by pnyxtr in I'm Looking For...
There is that. And I absolutely love a lot of old English literature, or in some cases just old-ish, so it's not that I have a problem with archaic language. I do have a problem with crap writing, though.

I don't think I've read a lot of translations to Englis ...
Contemporary Japanese novels?
(24 posts, 2313 views) Posted: 1968d 16h, 39m ago by pnyxtr in I'm Looking For...
Murakami is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. Since he is, after all, a little too popular. I can't be all alternative and shit if I read something (probably) millions have already liked before me. But, since that's (mostly) me joking, I'll second the suggestio ...
