Intriguing

The story instantly drew me into the manga and has kept me throughout. The art on the other hand is veeeery dated and that is what brought the score down slightly (but it's not bad enough to really detract from the story). The story mainly focuses on the main character and any other character is just fodder and even the main protagonist himself isn't too interesting. There isn't a lot of personality presented for any of the cast. That being said, at one point the story gave me feels. All in all, great story, poor cast.

A Good Read

Kiseiju can entertain.
The art is decent (bear in mind its a 90's manga); not the worst there is, but not the best either. However, the art is just right enough to get the story across and it's flaws are not too distracting. The action scene are done well and it's true that the art is "sensitive"; that's how this manga's gore can be described- sensitive. Beware of small feet and hands.
The plot is interesting as it revolves around, for the most part, survival. It emphasizes a conflicting struggle to survive between humans and aliens. There's also the environment theme which was touched upon at the very start but was not really explored further until the manga's conclusion, which would be one downside. The manga can also be funny at times (Muahahahahaha) and the romance was a little weird. It was more of a clinging relationship, than a high school love affair. The manga has it's touching moments and one in particular managed to make me sniffle a little.
Migi is a lovely character and so is Tamura Reiko (this character's development added depth to the series). The MC had many annoying moments, but he's generally tolerable. At first he changed overnight becoming a badass and then he grew in the sense that he became aware of his limits and that it was not his sole responsibility to protect humanity and that the humans around him should be given a chance to fight for their survival as well. In otherwords, he had development, much like Migi and Tamura Reiko.
The ending felt rushed, and when I say ending, I mostly mean the concluding ideas. As a reader I didn't feel eased into it and it came off as the author just simply trying to tie up lose ends , especially with the environment theme, which could have done with more exploration. All in all, a good read.

Was good at the beginning

I like the relationship between the MC and Migi. Migi was a cool level headed alien that had a good mindset of survival of the fittest, which made him likable and unique. The overall plot about humanity and aliens being similar was superb. The plot was at a good pace and the story was solid.

But around the chapter 50 mark the plot was different. Some people below mention it too when they read it. The story felt rushed and the plot with the military came out of nowhere. There was no plot leading to it and it just what happened; I felt that I skipped a couple of chapters in between but discovered that if didn't. I dislike how to plot changed from the beginning and it turned into a 1vs1 fight near the end. I guess it being axed so it started to suck near the end.

Overall, I liked the build up for the manga, but for some reason it was rushed to end. I didn't like the ending and I had to force myself to finish it so I can complete this manga. So, I'm giving this 7/10 but it could have been better.

I didn't expect the story to be so good. Right from the beginning, it drew me in and commanded my full attention with its humor, unique plot, and of course Migi. Both Migi and Shinichi are very good and well developed characters. All other side characters are good too, none was annoying or had no sense. I am a skipper but I didn't skip a single page in this manga. Migi is definitely my favorite character even though Shinichi is also awesome. Migi is the best "pet" character have come across. Despite being an initially cold blooded parasite, Migi grew in character just like Shinichi did. There's this bromance going on between the two; it's so satisfying to see them interact with each other. It's rare to find a manga full of so likable characters and developed in other aspects as well, like character growth and a meaningful message.

I just finished reading Parasyte last week and wow, is it good. It kept my undivided interest at all times and has some really progressive, thought provoking themes in it. The entire series is very well paced and easy to follow. The artwork is definitely older, but well done. Character's movements are easy to follow and left me feeling emersed in the action sequences which aren't too lengthy and are nicely spaced through out the story. This manga definitely has a lot of old school gore and horror, which adds a fun kick to the already strong story. A true masterpiece and a must read for any manga lover.

VERY old-fashioned

Despite being 90's, it looks and feels very 80's. The dated feel doesn't detract much from the experience (though you'll laugh at the clean-cut delinquent hooligans), but what does spoil it somewhat for the modern reader is...the diminished impact.

Somewhere in the back of your mind, you'll suspect that this or that scene was supposed to be ultra-creepy or downright horrifying nightmare fuel, but it just doesn't do much anymore. NOT AFTER GANTZ (lol). That and the G-rated romance, with the "bad" girl having prince-on-white-horse dreams, and the good girl blushing at holding hands and having a thing for sneaking up and scaring the protagonist - it all just makes it seem soooo innocent.

Maybe it should just be retroactively reclassed as a "shounen". It might've scared me when I was 12.

Now, it's like "remember the meat processing plant from Gantz? now THAT is how you do SCARY".

Does, however, invoke some nostalgia for purer times past.

Its a long time since i first had seen this manga, but I never read it thinking that it dident look that great. But I was completely wrong. Its a great manga. Original in its ways and wil even make you think over some moral questions, like how we should treat other species and so on. Good plot, action, characters and you also have an okey romance in this.

It had some flaws but it was never uninteresting and i never jumpet a page.

missing grief

i feel like the author didnt even bother to see the grief and pain the parasytes spread, she/he was more concerned with showing the parasytes mutilating humans. teens were massacred and not one parent protested oir tried to take their kids from a school where such horrors occurred. who the heck would allow their child to go to a school where kids bodies were mutilated confused the columbine and other school shootings caused massive changes and grief, but none of the students were affected they just carried on.

However, I don't know if it was because of the scanlations, but vol 8, 9 and 10 seem to lack some sense, the plot feels rushed... but maybe that is just me

Never the less is a good manga and I did enjoy it... But could have been better
