After reading many reviews and getting very excited to read this is very disappointed. The background art is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen but the character design is very strange. Everyone looks like kids,this made me actually quit after two chapters.

I know every artist has their own style but even within that style, the characters never really change or age up, it's very disappointing

I read this manga multiple times in both English and Polish. I bought it immediately when it was released in Poland. I love the story and the characters. But even though I love this manga, it also has elements I didn't like, sometimes even found disturbing.

Let's start with positives. Beautiful art. Kii Kanna has a sketchy art style, but her backgrounds are often beautifully detailed. Also, I love how patterns on characters clothes are hand drawn, not put by computer. That's a huge plus, looks more natural. Plus, her art style is so cute! I love it!
What I also want to mention at the start is LGBT representation. Not only realistically portrayed, but also diverse. There is not only a gay couple. There are also other different LGBT characters which are nice.
Then the main characters. I adore Mio. I loved him before time skip and after. He is such a cutie. I liked how he was fighting for Shub's feelings. How he was trying with little things just to make Shun like him back. I liked it a lot. I also liked how honest he was with saying what he really thinks. When it comes to Shun, I liked him more at the very beginning than later. I understand the reasons why he was pushing Mio away, but at the same time, I disliked how he was pushing him away by giving him no explanation whatsoever. Because while Mio was trying to talk to him, Shun was shutting him out. It was not okay, Shun was an adult, not a high schooler, seriously...
Secondary characters were... nice. I liked the granny, Eri, and Suzu a lot. When it comes to Sakurako, I have mixed feelings. I didn't understand most of her actions.

Not with the bad sides. And it will get spoilerish.
I didn't like how sex was treated. I think that manga would be much, much better without the yaoi aspect. For me, it was just poorly portrayed.
Then, Sakurako. As I mentioned, most of her actions made no sense to me. I dare to say, her whole presence in that manga made little sense.
You could say more, but these are main points I wanted to make.

Finishing, UnE was a good manga. Really good. But for me, it looked like the author gave it too little through.
But still, I would definitely recommend it. Even with all the flaws, that's a sweet and realistic story worth reading.

I enjoyed this. It wasn't perfect, but it was one of the best BL I've read in a while. The author tried to create something new, and she definitely succeeded. I especially liked the characters openly identifying as gay and talking about acceptance in Japan. Sex was also handled in a realistic way. Now, as I've already stated not everything was perfect. Despite the manga trying to be realistic, there also were kind of unconvincing things. For example...



All these flaws did was make the read a little less enjoyable, but the manga was still nice and I don't regret the time I spent on it. I especially liked the attention given to backgrounds and envioronments. Thanks to the gorgeous art I really felt like I was on the island together with the main characters. That's also why I felt a little betrayed when



Well anyway, that's just me and my crazy love for backgrounds. Talking about the protagonists, both were lovely. I really appreciated Mio's change, it made me feel like those three years really passed. (I wonder what made him change like that).

So in the end, a BL that is worth reading.

I love how love here isn't portrayed through sex. Plus, the sex scenes weren't explicit that this could fall under the category of Shounen ai lol. It's quite sad that even though it was implied that they're going to be reversible, it wasn't shown in the manga. But then again there's a sequel!!!! Yay!!!

It had a nice feeling and was slow-phased with the Romance. The only thing that bothered me was that both characters looked like 12-year old boys even though they're supposed to be "adults". Felt like I was reading a shotacon, which I passionately try to avoid.

Plot is more complex than you get the impression of, it deals with coming out as gay and the problems surrounding it. However, I had a hard time taking the story seriously because of the art. Like I said before, they all looked like kids.

It's worth to read, it's different in a way, it's sensual. Like I said it's a slow paced romance. Our two main characters met as a very young people and started to like each other but they had to separate. The story is about dreaming and waiting for the wish to become true, it's about fear, trust, keeping and breaking promises, about facing family and social expectations. There's depth in that simple, bright story and I like it.
The art is good, characters are likeable so you'll have a good time reading it.

I'll start off by saying that Kii Kanna has made their way into my top ten favourite artists. The characters remind me of Atsuya Uki's work (of Cencoroll/Tsuritama/Digimon Tri fame) which isn't a bad thing. Their characters are very cute. But the BACKGROUNDS! Holy shit. I find bg art in manga to be pretty minimalist (which again isn't bad, most focus on the people anyway), but the illustrations here look like something out of a picture book. The environmental artwork is so detailed and pretty and well done. I spend forever reading each page because there are so many little details in the background, from Shun's extremely messy desk to all the plants in his yard. The art really makes this quaint island setting come to life and makes me feel like I'm actually there. I swear, I feel the breeze of the sea when I read this. But enough about the art - I could go on about that all day.

The characters and their relationships. Shun is extremely refreshing. When Mio comes back, Shun isn't all trying to get in his pants like I would expect. In fact, he seems to be pretty nonchalant but is actually crazy about Mio - he just doesn't show it through sex (like a lot of BL characters...). His whole personality just resonates with me for some reason. He is pretty passive in the face of Mio's affections yet he is extremely brave and proactive in his confession about his homosexuality to his family. He just seems completely and utterly real and not composed of a single trope or personality trait. Mio on the whole felt a bit less developed as a character compared to Shun, but his active personality is an excellent counterpoint to Shun's more passive one. The trials in their relationship (self-doubt, being unsure of the other person's feelings) are realistic and seeing the two overcome them is heartwarming. Also! Their (almost) sex scenes! Mio wants to do it but because they don't have lube/condoms and Shun isn't up to it, they don't do it! (also cause Shun falls asleep, but still). Maybe I'm just jaded, but with so many other authors Mio would have just pushed him down and had his way. It's refreshing, and Kii Kanna is so great.

No to mention the female characters! Two of them are in a more stable relationship than the two MCs (with each other, which is novel in BL for me), and the third isn't used as an object to provoke jealousy and her story about loving someone who can't love her back is done sympathetically. Fantastic.

tl;dr, extremely refreshing story with realistic characters/relationships and beautiful artwork. Where has Kii Kanna been all my life?
