Only One Wish

Wish is somewhat of a modern twist on the classic monkey paw tale-- for those not familiar with the monkey paw, the moral is to be careful what you wish for. The wishes in this case are directed from skeptical school children to a genie-like shinigami character through a mystical cell phone instead of a shriveled monkey hand.
Wish is divided into three chapters which tell three separate episodic stories, the first of which was shockingly dark from the mangaka best known for Tokyo Mew Mew. Unfortunately, Ikumi-sensei must not have been able to commit to the darkness, because instead of setting the tone for the rest of the book the first chapter stands in stark contrast to the next two stories.
To me, this lack of consistency was the biggest disappointment. It was a shame because I greatly enjoyed the chapter where Ikumi-sensei ventured out of her comfort zone, her cutesy shoujo style adding a delightfully chilling effect to the horror of the first story.
