Good but not GREAT

This is one of those mangas that you will hear everyone praise as one of the greats, but do not be fooled by the masses. Its a stereotypical teacher drama with crude humor and a plot that repeats itself over and over. For example, student has a problem and dislikes the main character or one of the main characters friend. Student than is taught a lesson by main character through tough love, rinse and repeat. The art in many cases isn't as bad as people think, its just different and we all know people hate change. The boys don't look like girls instead they look like boys and all the girls practically look the same, so in essence it has a little realism instead of exaggerated facial features and body parts. But all these negatives aside its a good read just not great. The main character grows on you and you accept his actions as thoughtful and hilarious. You cheer him on till the very end and Onizuka may very well be one of the greatest charatcers in manga and anime history. That alone makes this a decent read. If you haven't read it, i suggest you do, just don't buy into the hype. Its good but not great, but by all means its better than most of the crap out there. 8/10

I was never able to finish this series. The plot is definitely there for it to be a great manga (as many here believe it to be), but I can't help but feel the artwork was drawn as such (ie, pretty awful) to keep casual manga readers away from it - while more in-depth manga enthusiasts could see right through that and appreciate the comedic gold and thoughtful stories in this series. Sadly, I find myself in the former group, too disgusted with the illustrations (especially facial features) to fully involve myself with this story. I gave it a 6.5, but with a better illustrator, it would have been a 9 easily. What can I say? I'm superficial, I guess.
Maybe I'll come back to it one day (I was able to get through about 4 1/2 volumes before putting it down), but today probably isn't that day.

I could read this manga over and over again and still find hilarious. I admit it not really all that prefect but nonetheless this manga deserves a 10.

Am I someone who was not impressed by this manga? The jokes were old and I only laughed at around 4 pages out of the entire manga. The plot was also very boring too as it relied very heavily on teacher and student stereotypes and gender classification like many females are total bitches. It would have been way more interesting had many of the other characters not been written to look bad so that Onizuka would look good.
At least the other series by this mangaka are way more interesting.

This one is an incredible manga. It doesn't matter what gender you are into, you are assured you will love GTO! It also makes for a good collectible (if you are into collecting manga.)

for some odd reason GTO remains my fav manga... i didnt really find it that funny but the story flat out destorys everything, starts off slow imo, then it picks up real quick and once u know it ur finished witht he series and wanting more.
the characters are loverable, and you can adapt to them almost instantly, through out the story you will experience the characters in the story actually grow, and how they develop.
the ark work starts crap, then after a while you will appriciate the art that is involved. the atmosphere (backdrop) is great i actually thought i was in the class room with the class and such, yea im not lying either
so yea its my fav manga of all time so i give it a...

Definitely a classic, a drop-everything-and-read-now-if-you-haven't-already. If you feel like it's not your type of manga, well YOUR WRONG! And if you do give this a try and you read a few chapters and you still think that "this isn't for me," well YOUR STILL WRONG xD.
GTO is unlike anything you have probably ever read, and it takes some time to get over the initial shock. I know it took me a few chapters to realize that behind the chaos that is GTO, masterpiece lurks. I'm so damn glad that I didn't throw this series out the door and that I kept on reading and believing the hype. Its ALL true.

This by far is the best COMPLETED manga i have read, although I've probably read about 10 completed manga. The story 9.5. The characters 9.5. The art work 10. The comedy 11. This manga is indeed a classic and is a must read for everyone.
"What kind of human being uses someone else bathroom and forgets to flush?!" I could have died from laughter ;D

I just watched the anime and read the manga today after months, no, years of putting it off. I thought it was just overrated when I first heard about it, thinking it was just another ecchi anime/manga. How wrong I was. This is a combination of ecchi, humor, violence and drama; in my opinion, the best combination of them all!
