twincest warning for this one

Monkey Punch has non identical twincest, if you're not into that stuff, stay away.

I really didn't enjoy Junai Virus very much. The artwork was only ok, at times plain ugly. The stories seem promising at first but quickly become boring and too damn convoluted. None of the characters are very interesting or likable.

i'm conflicted about this series of oneshots -- the stories aren't cliche, and there is promise here, but i find myself empty after reading them. maybe the drama quotient is turned up way too high for such short stories? the art isn't my style either, but maybe i need to return to this one after letting it simmer for a bit.

[edit 2011-04-12: no, it didn't grow on me, i like the art no better now than i did then, and the stories don't hang well enough together; i don't care about any of the characters, and the psychology doesn't work for me.]

Trouble With Story Telling Flow...Not an Effortless Read

Loveless (c3) and Piano Lesson (c2) are worth the effort invested!

C1: The art reminds me of a more pop culture North American style. The bodies are huge and the heads are small. It's very loose, free-flowing and unique. I'm not sure if I like the art; it might grow on me. This story is the most fast, sketchy and exaggerated style of art in the collection. The story itself didn't have enough character development to make me like the characters or understand their motivations. Especially the playboy; he was all about sex and only sex. And his reason for sticking with the main character was weak and cold. I know for sure I didn't like the story.

C2..Amazing art! The angry mother reflected in the young boy's fear-filled eyes was intense, creative and emotive. The story was a bit confusing as far as the relaying and several of the commentaries with the illustrations were quite cryptic. It was worth rereading and figuring it out, because it did actually have a great story buried beneath.

C3. What about the third wheel boy, full of anger and hate? Was he just a catalyst for the main characters to reveal the truth about the past tragedy? Confusing, clunky and incomplete story telling again, but worth rereading to figure it out because the psychology was so complex and fascinatingly dark. The art was large and loose again, giving the characters all a very liquid and vibrant feeling.

The final story was quite irritating and tiresome to figure out. I just couldn't get into it. The pacing was clunky, like the rest of them, but there were a lot of cluttery pages, unlike the rest of the stories, which made it cumbersome.

a wild ride- 2 out of 4

Story #1 had drawings that looked shabby & not congruent with the emotions. I think it kind of killed the mood at some parts.
Story #4 had cool & sharp art & I welcomed the ‘alien’ & complex concept as it was intriguing! However like what was mentioned by the other reader, it did not give me a lasting feeling after I put it down.

Stories 2 & 3 were the exception though & made an impact for me, especially story #3.
It was my fav out of all & had a haunting quality. It’s difficult to present an unconventional & psychologically complex idea without overtelling or overpreaching it & I applaud story #3 for not falling into that trap ;)
Story #2 was a little overdramatic but I enjoyed most of its other qualities so the extra drama did not bother me in the end.

I love Yaoi and most yaoi tend to follow a i like you, i chase you, u fall for me, happy ever after! Which is all good. But with this manga it was twisted and possessive love and unexpected turns. I enjoyed the ride and read it more than once because it is not just your typical fluff yaoi.
