Description
So just what is with this fascination for the Japanese teenage girl? We're talking about that extreme variant of her--that highly evolved creature of Japan's frantically trendy consumer culture... the ko-gal. Short Cuts is a unique and surreal Japanese comic strip that provides an illustrated journey into the ko-gal's world, created by Usamaru Furuya, one of Japan's most highly esteemed avant-garde comic artists.

Japanese cultural satire at it's finest. Some of the references are a little hard to understand if you're unfamiliar with Japanese culture (and sub-culture as well) Although some of the really hard to understand cuts have a brief explanation at the end of the chapter so just be sure to remember any that you had trouble with and you might get it later.

For those of you that are unfamiliar with what a ko-gal is it's basically the American equivalent of a "Valley Girl"

Best kogal manga ever, I'd say. Lots and lots of crass, irony, sarcastic, and sometimes plainly blatant humor. The various references and puns and background information are worth some laughs too bigrazz

It's weird in a wonderful kind of way.
The degree of enjoyment provided by this title is directly proportional to your knowledge of Japanese society and it's culture. Being an open-minded and well-educated person also helps sometimes.

P.S. If you have a twisted sense of humor do yourself a favor and go read it right now.

i didnt really loled out like most of the people here maybe because i already saw the puns coming or the jokes, or maybe it doesnt really jive with my sense of humor but i also know that it is funny, weird right? like American Pie funny, its funny but im just smiling im not loling.
anyway, the mangaka is pretty awesome to make all the story into almost two pagers and you get the gist of everything with two liners or one liners and the execute the pun, that takes talent smile the art is also nice, clean lines combined with almost doodly like- i dunno, and sometimes even surreal xD there are also some stories that just touched me here, like the story of Boy Zero smile yup, even though it is about materialism and it seems like the victims are the male population and the ko-gals are just made fun of and whatever but its alright, i didnt get offended.

First of all i just have to say that Furuya's art is just one of the best i've seen in quite some time.
After rereading this series i have to say i enjoyed it as much as the first time. There are some references, some extremely fun segments, overall it's a very enjoyable read.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for some unusual fun.
