First off, this ISN'T a manga adaption of the anime Digimon. It simply shares the same character design for its main character. Infact, Digimon as you know it originated from a manga one shot. Sure, there were tamagochi knock offs before the manga, but without the manga, the leap from "bunch of pixels" to "internationally loved anime that an entire generation grew up with" would never have happened.

Don't let the lukewarm ratings and "Lawl Digimans r 4 kidz lawl" mentality fool you, this is a pretty decent manga. It's a shounen manga, yes, and I won't deny that you're gonna hear about "the power of friendship" a half dozen times while reading through it, but it has good art, a solid plot and likeable characters. It also isn't quiet as lighthearted as you'd expect from a Digimon manga - there are characters that permanently kick the bucket, and the Taichi of V-Tamer is slightly more mature (although just as humorous as) than his anime counterpart.

I still wouldn't recommend this to anybody besides Digimon fans, though. There is no romance, tournament arcs, or ecchi scenes. The manga focuses on writing good fighting scenes (you know, the fight scenes that aren't just Character A and Character B swinging their swords with sparkly glitter until somebody dies. I'm looking at you, Bleach), and fleshing out its small cast of main characters. Zero and Taichi undergo a fair amount of character development, and the plot does get better the later you read into the manga.

If you were a fan of Digimon when you were a kid, this manga is likely to invoke some nostalgia, but still be intelligent enough to entertain you in its own right. For all the fans of the 90's anime, I highly recommend this.

ok, i've only read the first two chapters of this and all I can say about it is, if you liked any other character in the anime digimon besides Taichi, then you won't want to bother with this, as there's a lot of alone time with Taichi and his digimon pal, but remember, I only had the chance to read two chapters and might plan on reading more of this if i have time, if you are a taichi fan or a really huge fan of digimon that you wouldn't mind reading about a sole character, then this is for you.
