so this isn't necessarily bad but i wound not call it good either. the smut is not that great. their sex life seems not great but i guess that is kinda realistic for a couple who were forced into a marriage together and one of them is a virgin. I mean things are bound to be a little awkward. I agree with most people on here who are saying that this should not be labeled as a josei manga. The writing and characters are childish. Its like two 13 year olds got together and were like "hey we should make our role play into a manga!" someone is always yelling or crying. it all seems very unnecessary. I honestly don't know why they are together and I don't think it is a very good representation of love. my last negative comment on the subject is that the manga went on far longer than it needed to. I love a long manga but the plot really felt like it could have all been condensed into maybe 3 volumes and have been just as good. possibly better. now on the bright side I enjoyed the art style. If the story didn't seem like it was done professionally at least the art did. The characters did have some redeemable moments that made me feel for them a bit. I really enjoyed some of the side characters who make brief appearances . the smut might not be the best but the art in said smut moments is really good. I feel the artist had a good grasp on the human body that you don't see as much in a lot of smut. I know it doesn't seem like I have a lot of good things to say about this manga but it really wasn't too bad. it was a waste of my time but I didn't come away from it with a bad feeling which is more than I can say for several mangas. it was just mediocre really. read it if you would like but don't have high hopes for it.

Could have been better...

I picked this up thinking it was a Josei but like what the rest of reviewers said, it's a Shoujo in the skin of a Josei. And it has all the cliched tropes at that. Still, it makes for a light, guilty pleasure read to pass the time.
What's funny is...everything would have been so much better if the author had just broke out of the stereotypical flow and made the MC actually quit her job to go with her senpai in the first few chapters, and from there make herself into a woman capable of standing on her own two feet and gradually be on equal terms with her husband. Instead, the MC is constantly beating herself up as worthless and basing her entire self-worth on the husband and their unhealthy relationship. What saves it apart from the cliched plot devices to throw those two together and force them to grow closer...is how the guy is shown to be an actual cold block of ice when you think he might have thawed.

I was expecting a Josei manga, but what I got was more or less a shoujo romance. Just replace the setting in a high school with a rich boy getting engaged to a normal girl and its basically the same. Even the plot structure and characterizations are no different.

It's a Shoujo wrapped in a Josei costume.
The drama and the flow of events is Shoujo. The setting is Josei. The characters are a mix.

Your average office lady is persuaded into the marriage, for the benefits of both, to an ambitious business man who has an aloof character and poor interpersonal skills.
The story evolves around their growing relationship and the life goal of him.
The manga has a proper end. Probably not satisfying for everybody completely but also nothing surprising.

I totally adored the drawing style (9/10). Very pleasantly to look at with the typical comic effects for emotions. It was my greatest entertainment about this manga and kept me wanting to see more and more.
Also when only slowly it was nice to watch how Hokuto, the husband, developed. Chiwa the wife turned more and more into a cry baby. I can't stand that but she was often just so sweet that I overlooked it. Except for that emotional increase she was the same at the end as at the beginning - while he changed quite a lot but has still a long way to go.

The drama is nothing too dramatic and some events seem too convenient and cliche.
The comedy is not exaggerated and the smut is rare.

Could have been better

So the manga is not too bad, the romance is really heartwarming and the drawings are very good, but at some point it got boring and was difficult to keep on reading. Also, I don't know if it's because my culture is different or what (i'm from Spain) but the values of a wife transmitted by this series bothered me way too much, so that's one more reason why I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest.
Anyway, if it had been shorter it would have been waaaay better, as it wouldn't have gotten boring. But overall it wasn't that bad I guess.

Not good enough for Josei

If you are a fan of a simple light romance story with some smutty scenes it's worth to try. You can enjoy it to a certain level. But if you expect more you won't get it.
The strenght, the flow of the story and its characters building are in shoujo manga level. Early chapters were okay until it failed to develop in later chapters. Mostly because of the main char's inconstant behaviors. The setting is in work environment and she is an office lady, that's all ...that can be categorized as Josei.

a good josei manga

I rarely finish josei/shoujo mangas but i managed with this one. I just think it's your typical, classic mature josei manga - there's sweet bits, there's comedy and then a bit of drama. I'm not a fan of drama but it's more of an end-story thing. Although disappointing, it wasn't much of a bother for me. I also don't really like the fights.. and how her husband slaps her. If you're okay with a somewhat femme fatale girl and you're seeking a mature romance manga then this is a good read.

This series was funny, serious, and quite realistic in a lot of ways. I really enjoyed it. There were times where I found myself laughing out loud or talking to myself . I love the art work. There's something about it that's fits my tastes perfectly. The panels were really easy to read/follow. Sometimes I read mangas where the story gets confusing to follow in parts or the dialogue just doesn’t work for me. I didn’t have this problem with Happy Marriage. The plot flowed nicely and I enjoyed the dialogue because it felt very natural and realistic.

What I like most about this series is that despite some of the obvious clichés here, the relationship between the main characters developes in a very believable manner. It seems natural and it pulls you in. The relationship is charming and that charm carries the story to the end.

The main characters were great - funny, insightful, cute, etc. I also loved the ensemble cast and getting to know about our hero’s past. I think the mystery there could have been a bit stronger, but I was glad that it wasn't over the top. It didn’t take away from the story. I think my only issue is that our heroine’s father disappears for too much of the story. We don’t really get to know much about him except that he’s a bit of a trouble maker that means well.

Overall, if you’re looking for a mature romance manga, I’d definitely give this one a try. It was a lot of fun and I read all 10 volumes in two days.

I started reading this with low expectations of it being the same standard smutty josei. It's totally different from my expectation, and a pleasantly surprisingly good romantic comedy. Both leads are decent well rounded characters. Although the Chiwa does have her irritating moments of crying I can't help but root for her success in re: to Hokuto. She's plucky and cute and acknowledges her shortcomings. Hokuto, on the other hand I'm surprised to see that he's not the average everyday forceful boyfriend/husband who commands their SO every so often with no regards for their feelings. He does have his moments of that, but it's not apparent or shockingly stark. At least the author makes a focus to show that he's not some perfect rich kid with no problems or flaws.
Also one of the better parts that I'm happy about is that he considers the pair as equals and upholds the marriage that bind them.

Although there was one moment when Hokuto threatened raped that was uncomfortable to read. I understand it's suppose to be comedic but still...

The plot is nothing really special, it's amusing and really quick to read. If you enjoy shoujo and smut, go for this.

The ending could have been better. :/

Now Shoujo or Josei manga to me are all about marriage, it is either a couple at the end decided to ortalk about getting married right after they graduate from high school or it's an arranged marriage, this is the latter.

Well well, there was a whole lot of comedy in this. What is this, why are these two people soooo amusing? ^_^ I love it when the two bicker or have couple conversations, like asking the other, "are you ok?" and sort. Just makes me crack a smile all the time.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Hee, wish for another chapter about her being pregnant, getting a baby, both of them looking after the baby, see the kid growing older, etc...that would be so nice, ahh~~~
