Description
While pursuing a criminal, the pretty but reckless interplanetary police officer Birdy Cephon Altirra accidentally kills Tsutomu, an earthling high school student. To make amends, Birdy is forced to share her own body with Tsutomu's spirit so that he can continue his own life. At first, Tsutomu knows nothing about his situation but soon discovers that his body is starting to take certain actions without his mind ordering it. In times of action, Birdy takes full control of their shared body, transforming it back into her original female form.

Ditto, Yuno19 !

His review accurately describes what's special about this, and a big part of why I love it. All I can add, first, is that the art is unusually clear, even in the fight scenes, so you can always recognize all characters and tell what's going on. (And the fight scenes are so good they're scary. There's a real sense of tremendous force being applied!)

Second, because the high-powered hero fighter is a woman, there is a nice absence of macho posturing associated with the fights, and it's perfectly possible for both sexes of readers to enjoy the action aspect of this manga.

Finally, for me at least, the sci-fi explanation of events, and of Birdy's super fighting power, is much more effective at inducing the necessary "suspension of disbelief" than the usual magic nonsense.

(And thank you scanlators, for a perfectly idiomatic English translation, at least through chapter 80. Thank you above all, NEW scanlator Shion Arita, who brought us a new chapter in December 2014 and more chapters in 2016.)

And now, in 2017, thank you to Marionette Scanlations.

i'm impressed.
have watched the anime, this manga clearly has better feeling around it. with more inconvenient plot element (read = closer to realism, no more a child live alone, or a village left by its inhabitant, or an oujo who can has all), the mangaka challenged himself to made the story keep progressing well and still be interesting, and he did it!

append edit;
the manga that grows into something i look forward every release, which is rare nowadays. classic strength-centered story with light (inter-stellar) political mix which must fit into ordinary high-schooler lifestyle. leaving nice impression after each chapter. shallow yes, but the aftertaste is somewhat special. uprated!

Its good all around. Not quite like the anime which seems a little watered down and less mature maybe? I really do hope someone picks it up again, I think it has potential. Maybe the anime will bring renewed interest to this manga, which at this time has not been licensed.

I'm stoked that Birdy got a remake. I remember watching the OVA when it came to America. I thought it was awesome. I've seen the remake that just got released in the U.S. and love it too. I wish the manga would come to the U.S. Maybe someone will pick the series up again. I can only hope, or beg haha. Somebody please pick this up.

The story so far is very different from the manga.
As usually is with manga adaptations the differences are not for the better...

Somebody should translate this.
