I have been a little hesitant to read this one because there is just so much hype about it, but i almost wanted to smack myself for waiting this long!
This is very much Josei and slice of life, so beware before starting it, if you're not in the right mood. The romance is secondary and develops slowly. I tend to like that sort of thing, so it was not a problem for me at all. I liked that the characters were flawed, but not stupid. With so many volumes, i would have hated it if the story started to drag, or took forever to realize things.

This manga is simply brilliant. I'm usually not a big fan of shoujo/josei, but i really have to make this one an exception. Even with all the dramas and stuff going on, there was not a single second that i feel frustrated reading this manga, which is quite rare for a 14 volumes manga. After finishing the first volume, I thought 14 volumes worth of this stuff is way too long. However, i was mistaken. the manga was very well, no, perfectly paced. Sure it feels almost like a slice of life in the first few volumes, but the development between the characters was amazing. The characters have some depth to them, but not too much. The plot could be predictable sometimes, but I have nothing against that so it wasn't really a minus for me. It was simple, interesting, and not frustrating. The idea wasn't very new or unique, but the execution is masterclass. The art felt weird at first, but as i kept reading, i felt that the main characters become better and better looking every chapter. By the time i finished this manga, I thought the art was just gorgeous. The ending was nice; it perfectly fits the manga and was ultimately satisfying.

In conclusion, this manga is... well flawless would be a way to describe it, since no matter how hard i try, i couldn't find a flaw to it. It's a very light read. If you're into a romance story then, this is a must.

I started reading it in 2008, only some of the first chapters and stopped reading it. Then, three years later, I picked it up again and I have to say, I'm so glad I did!
I think this manga is funny and enjoyable, but as it progresses, we come to a more complex, a little unrealistic plot and two many secondary characters appear, making me kind of wanting to skip some parts.
We come to understand two main characters whose past life choices made them become who they are, Sumire, being unable to be herself and thus others have a different perception of her, as the cool and smart career woman. On the other hand, Takeshi (momo), due to some of the past dealings, have made him kind of promiscuos. These two characters blended well because they needed each other and by living together they unconditionally accepted themselves, though as master and pet.
I just think it took a bit too long for Sumire to realize and not treat him only as a pet, and then when she finally realizes her feelings the story kind of rushed. It focused too much on Hasumi and her..
It lacked a bit of consistency, it felt like the mangaka had so many ideas and wanted to put them all, and only after some chapters she remembered to develop those ideas
Nonetheless, it had some pretty cute scenes and made me smile and laugh a few times. I totally loved the fact that

About the art, I liked how it is different from the other mangas, it has its own style and I adore the drawings, like the different angles used, nice body proportions and faces filled with emotions.
Overall, I recommend it, if you don't like cliches, this is a good manga!

I loved this manga. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I stayed up till 3am just to finish it.

The art was gorgeous and I loved the characters even Fukushima (though i didn't like her when she was first introduced) but I couldn't bring myself to hate her. I actually didn't hate any of the characters, they felt like real people. I LOVE Momo!

I loved the theme of Sumire chan being strong on the outside but weak on the inside and it wasnt over done. The ending is a bit over kill though but it ends happily and i guess the ending was right for the manga. Overall I'm so glad i picked it up.

I remember starting this a long time ago and then stopping, because I didn't like how weak Sumire was getting. I realize that Sumire being strong on the outside and weak on the inside is sort of a central theme to the manga, but sometimes I think to myself, there is a limit... The breaking point for me was I decided to pick it up again and just sort of power through it. The whole manga is incredibly adorable and sweet, and I read it with a new appreciation. Although, I do think it could've been cut down by a few volumes. It starts to drag in the middle, with Sumire constantly trying to love Hasumi and then realizing little by little that she feels more comfortable with Momo--seriously, how hard could it be to realize that Momo's the one you want to be with? I also didn't like Fukushima's storyline... I just don't find her to be a likeable character at all. The ending was pretty good, although I feel like they wrapped some stuff up rather quickly. Overall, I'd say give it a try. It takes itself seriously and is definitely one of the better shoujo mangas out there.

If you're on this page then you most definitely like romance and THIS is one of the best, so no matter what, don't let the title or the cover disturb you like it did for me at first and just read chapter 1. Before you know it you'll have already read at least 10 chapters, and be sorry that there are only 82 chapters. The characters are well depicted and mature, the story is good and "nearly" believable (only for the pet thing, just accept it and then there's no more problems), and I really liked the art.

It is now May 7th 2011 2:57 AM local time. I have just spent the last 12 hours reading this manga from beginning to end. Very few josei/shoujo manga have entertained me as much as this one. Storyline is really good, not too heavy or light on the drama, romance was more or less "just nice" and the comedy was hilarious. Art style is the only thing that I have a slight quirk against, but being a guy used to shounen/seinen art styles I'll let Kimi Wa Pet get away with this one.

A fantastic read to pass the time and also if you wanna get your emotions going now and then.

Originally, i kept putting off reading this as the "pet" thing sounded weird to me but then i was hooked from chapter 1. This is actually one of the cutest manga's ever! You know, one of those feel good mangas! It's not over the top and that's one of the best parts about it. gahhhh it's just SO CUTE ASKJDHKF SO CUTE!

It has been ages since I last enjoyed a (long) romance manga like this one. I didn't feel irritated at all while reading through the 14 volumes, which is quite uncommon for me. Really, just that is reason enough to rate this 10. I am in the twenties, and have been lacking good romance manga to read. Most shoujo mangas leave me partly angry, because they tend to be superficial (I know I am generalizing), alike and just plain boring. Of course that has something to do with age. That's why this manga entertained me very much. No it is not perfect, but it entertains the group it is meant to entertain, therefore the tag josei.

I like how it is not dramatic in a sick way, and how things that could have been shoujo-dramatized are solved in reasonable and nice ways. I like how Momo (love to say that name - momomomomomommomomomomomooooo!!!) can take responsibility even though he is just in his twenties. Because it is possible to be mentally grownup in that age. I also like how Sumire pictures a specific segment of women, who are shy, too self-conscious (especially about their flaws) and insecure - but still hardworking ... Well, you might realize that I kind of can relate to this Sumire-person. Hahahah. I just felt very pleasant while reading Kimi wa Pet.

Now, food for thought... There was one thing that was a bit hard for me to relate to. They focused quite a bit on the -theme. It may be a common thing to think about in Japan, but in some countries in Europe, that's really not the biggest problem. Compared to that, they made much less of a thing to think through. That is something that is calculated quite a bit about where I live, and if it isn't planned, is often discussed. That wasn't the case here. But it didn't ruin the story for me, nonetheless.

Art - nice. Story - splendid. Ending - good. And as many before have mentioned, I really want to read more... But on the other hand, no. This piece is complete, and ended just when it was meant to end. 10 points to the international pet society!

As a romance, this is as good as it gets. In shojo, usually the girl gets only one amazing kiss or a confession but everything after that, I feel nothing. In Kimi Wa Pet, there were many moments, one after the other, where my body tenses up and feel that rush. Additionally, now that I've grown up from shojo, I was looking for more realistic romances with a sexual side, and here, it's done masterfully well, perfect amount, without being vulgar, perfect for a female audience.

I really fell in love with the characters, even the "evil" ones by the end. I especially love Sumire, realistic and relatable with insecurities, desires, etc. I love how Sumire is independent and career-driven, looking for the balance between work and a love life: a very modern scenario. This woman has a better education, higher salary, is taller, than most men. What do you do, in a world where some men are insecure about successful women? Once you do find the guy who is more successful than you, do you give up everything your worked for to become a housewife? This is why this manga is great, addressing these social issues, that exist not only in Japanese, but I see in American society. A breath of fresh air.

Ascetically-pleasing work, characters are beautifully drawn, to reflect their personality and emotions. Of course, the pet-master relationship is up in the clouds, but the way the author portrayed it, like great fiction, it feels real. The ending is amazing. That's all just frosting to all the romantic moments, that the reader would feel. Two thumbs up.
