I'm sorry, but this is not the type of manga for me.

I can accept cute and foolish seme, but only when he can be cool and reliable when its need to be. With Kasukabe, unfortunately, I can't see that yet. (the "sadistic" scenes look awkward to me...). Also call me old fashioned, but I don't really fond of innocent-looking (+ physically weak) but perverted seme, it turns me off.

And even without that flaw, I don't think this deserves a 10. (Maybe 7.5/8 if I have to). This is either overrated, or I just can't understand the way fangirl's mind works anymore...

Not a fantasy yaoi

This is one of my favourite shounen ai manga. I say shounen ai, because even if it's got sex in it and it's labeled as yaoi, for once it was actually about the characters and exploring their feelings for each other. It doesn't feel like a typical yaoi at all. It actually started out very realistically; handjobs. Whenever do you see handjobs in a yaoi!? Almost never! They always jump straight into the sparkly buttsex.

Well, there's an actual pace in this manga, which is why I love it. The main character, Kasukabe, loves being popular, so he tries to act cool and collected to gain favours with everyone, even though he's really just a wimp. But there's another guy (Misato) who's getting more popular than him, and it annoys the hell out of Kasukabe, so he starts a rivalry with Misato.

On a day where Misato is trying to escape his fangirl following, Kasukabe hides him. One thing leads to another, and Kasukabe tries to act all cool and experienced as he kisses Misato.Kasukabe is actually super inexperienced, much like Misato, but he pretends to know what he's doing, whereas Misato just keeps getting more flustered. Afterwards, they do a lot of kissing in secluded spaces, with Kasukabe jerking Misato off (Kasukabe doesn't allow Misato to jerk him off).

Ok, maybe I'm biased - I love stories that start with two guys having a rivalry and then act this out in sexual ways, and start giving each other handjobs (my OTP pairing is exactly like this), and this manga definitely filled in a spot I could never find in any other yaoi.

The only problem I have with this manga, is that it should have been longer. Kasukabe never shows his flustered and panicked side, so Misato has only seen him as calm and collected, when his inner personality is anything but, and that annoys me because Misato never gets to know that side of him.

Other than that, it's a great manga about two guys fooling around with each other, not knowing what they're in for as they steadily fall for one another. I really recommend reading it if you love shounen ai. Not so much if you're a huge yaoi fan because as I said before, it's not your typical yaoi at all (hence the reviews that call this 'overrated', they expected something else).

First chapter was boring, but tolerated it to the second and halfway to third. After that halfway into the third chapter, I gave up. It is so boring. I read a good number of great yaoi to tell you, that this just wasn't cutting it. If you're a heavy yaoi reader, pass on this.

The cutest baby-seme ever

This was the sweetest yaoi I've read in a long time.
Misato was very honest about what he wanted and not afraid to ask (beg) for it, I thought he was a lot braver than Kasukabe. But Kasukabe was extremely adorable, bluffing and faking confidence when he had no idea what he was doing.

We often read about semes who are completely completely in control, confident, dominant, and have added a couple of chapters to the Kamasutra. Their characters are finished, and all that remains is for the uke accept and submit. This story shows us what those guys could have been like when they were young and innocent but already with a need to dominate and a sadistic streak that won't be denied. For that alone I would have given this story a 1000 points if I could, but it's also flawlessly executed and the art is gorgeous. This is going to be a classic.

As most other reviewers have mentioned, this is really cute. Not at all "overrated" as some others have said. In my opinion anyway. Here's why:

The art is just beautiful and so clean. The main aspect of the art that I loved though was how you can really see the lust and desire in the main characters' eyes when they are looking at, or even just thinking about, the other. And due to the amazing art, all the kissing and sex scenes were deliciously hot. Plus, there is no clear distinction between the two leads in terms of appearance -- by that I mean there is no tiny, gooey-eyed, feminine uke and massively muscled seme. Instead they are of similar height and body type, which I liked, as it made it seem more realistic. After all, anyone who believes gay men only come in two sizes (tall men must be seme and short ones must be uke) have clearly read far too much mainstream "yaoi". So thank goodness for decent, modern BL like this that has a much more realistic grip on homosexuality.

Anyway, the plot itself is great. In all honesty, it's not at all unique, as rivals-become-lovers in a school setting really isn't anything new, but it's the kind of plot I like. If you want something with action, fantasy, or something with a completely unique type of plot, then this clearly isn't it, but as a fluffy yet slightly smutty manga, it really does the job well. Another plus for me, is the dynamic the leads have with each other. After all, I always love bickering couples (all of my favourite pairings are like that), and these two are a perfect example. Also, amazingly, there were no stupid love triangles in this!! One slight misunderstanding, but no real angst. Just a lot of teenage sexual tension. Yum.

The characters really are just so loveable. Not a single one that I dislike. There's the academic genius who is actually an idiot
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
by offering to teach someone else how to have sex, despite being a virgin himself, haha ^__^
with a slight sadistic streak (I really liked that about him). Then there's the "Prince of tennis" who, despite his cool and calm appearance, is actually super cute and even a little bit masochistic. And even though he does look unbelievably adorable at times, when he gets mad, he gets scary. Then there's the side characters... I can't be bothered to mention them all individually, but they were all entertaining and I didn't find any of them to be annoying. Which for me is quite unusual, as I tend to dislike female characters in manga, but I liked the girls in this too.

Anyway this is such a brilliant manga, that the only flaw (in my opinion) is that it isn't longer!

EDIT: After re-reading this again recently, I still think this deserves a 10/10. I don't think I have overrated it in the least. If you want something with heavy angst, stupid love-triangles, and characters being raped or killed-off, then this certainly isn't what you're looking for. If, like me, you are looking for something cute that isn't totally nauseating, then this is perfect for just that.
I noticed another reviewer who said that if you're a heavy yaoi reader then to avoid this... well, if you're definition of "yaoi" is the sort with horrific art where the characters are completely disproportionate and the plot either follows the "seme must rape uke, so uke will fall in love, even though seme is complete jerk" trope or "one guy confesses, they have sex, then other guy falls in love too", then yes, definitely avoid this. Because this is far too good to even be considered that sort of "yaoi". If, however, you mean "BL", then I completely disagree. I'm also an avid reader of BL manga, having read literally hundreds of BL stories, and even then I still think this is great. It may not be as hot and heavy as others, and normally I do think the smuttier the better, but in this case the abundance of sexual tension is more than enough. /rant over.

RomCom Drama. Haa?

Another RomCom manga. Well, I may tend to admire Drama more, but I am and always gonna be a sucker for comedy. *laughs*

PLOT: Of course, it’s typical to set romance-comedy BL in High School. I don’ know why, but yeah, never mind. Another typical here is the fighting couple and ending up being stuck together. But I don’t find ‘em all as turnoffs for the story, though. I bet this would turn into something strange if this story has taken place in an office. It’s more of childish that it suits well on a campus. What I don’t like about here is that it didn’t satisfy me on the romance element. There’s something missing. They just all do this then they want to monopolize one another.

ART: I commend the art. It’s actually the reason why I decided to pick this manga out of the bunch. It’s clean. I could read the protagonists’ emotion within their faces. The art is good, that’s all.

CHARACTERS: MISATO’S TOO CUTE TO BE TRUE! I really like him, especially when he wants Kasukabe to do things he have not done with anyone else yet. If I were Kasukabe, I might as well monopolize him as much as what Kasukabe has been.*laughs* Kasukabe’s oddly coolness is refreshing as well, for an airhead, idiotic seme as him. Just leave that Kadokura and the others. I don’t like ‘em. They’re all useless.

I don’t have anything to say. I just want to share that this is a refreshing RomCom BL manga. It’s funny and sexy. I f you’re craving for some laugh out loud ‘til death kind of manga, I recommend this one. It’s not fully comedy though. It still has its dense and the impact.

From beginning to end I couldn't put it down because I was attracted to the cuteness. In my opinion it's a soft and cute manga, that will make you say the word "cute" various times. All in all it's a simple and good read!!

No, seriously, it's really, really good- go read it. Not cliche or boring at all, and the characters are great! Katsukabe is so quirky and fun, and Misato is adorable. It may be a little role-reversal considering the seme-uke designation, but the mangaka pulls it off amazingly well- there's none of that awkward uhh, this doesn't seem right sort of feeling. And let me just say, this isn't super graphic or anything, but this manga seriously gets my heart going more than something really smutty, lol. The character expressions are just drawn out really well (did I mention the clean, cute art?), and I'm a sucker for a well-done blushing face... and although there's no plot outside of the experimentation thing, and although it's really short, this is definitely a memorable manga that's going to stick with me for a long time. So, yeah. Go and read it. biggrin

It was a fun read. The characters were a little shallow, which I'm not very fond of, but the kissing panels were just breathtaking. I particularly loved the first long and detailed kissing scene. The art has its on and off moments but overall it was rather enjoyable. One thing I can't quite get over with is the fact Misato was so obviously the seme to me... at least they could have hinted at the possibly of their switching positions. Kasukabe seems like an awkward seme, is all. Ahah.

Anyway, quite fun.
