I just finished reading this and tiny drops are pushing at the corner of my eyes. It's not long ago that I picked up this series. So I am just too grateful that I get to finish this 8-year of hardwork and wonders from author-san Koike Sadaji; plenty of care and precision from scanlator-san Meraki (the whole team); and doses of enjoyment and squeals from my fellow readers (and the memorable arigatou-guy at Meraki's online reader site). Thank you!

Now to the manga itself, what I love the most is how short the chapters usually are, yet they are ALWAYS packed with humour, warmth and fuzziness no matter how difficult the focused subjects: death, new accustoms, personal traumas, growing up (I love this because it's a task shared by both the adults and children with skillful observation and listening - something I still strive to improve as a person in my everyday life), getting over one's fears (various actually haha), and taking a step forward even if the future is largely unknown.

There are silly moments of antics and child-like that applicable for both small and big kids. There are friendship moments that are low-key discoveries of supports and endearments. There are romance moments that can be laughed-out-loud or tightly squeezed your heart. And most importantly, through it all, family moments that make it all a bliss at the end of the day, and the end of this title.

I was able to learn and reflect heaps reading this (and likely many times more in the years to come). I am 100% ENDORSING/RECOMMENDING Dad, the Beard Gorilla and I.

Please don't overlook it for its lightheartedness - because I am certain we can all get something out, and it makes this a better, more breather age (of craziness).

As for comparison to mangas like Yotsubato!, I don't really see it :-? The family focal lens is there. But really, they are quite different. Maybe Amaama to Inazuma is a bit more similar... Maybe not. This is a gem of its own rights.

On the other hand, the only tinny qualm I have for this manga is Michiru - the daughter who started as kindergartener, now a second grader - has been (too) surprisingly mature for her age (reflecting on my own personal growth and observations of others). Like she is fun-loving and a 100% kid, but damn, even adults, many can't compare to her handling of tough situations.

EDIT: if you look for something similar to read (like me), try My Home by Munko (the 1st in the Category Recommendation). I just started it and already love it! Also 4-koma, family-oriented with quirks and charms (fuzzy heart!)

I really like this manga, everything is progressing little by little, like the passing time, and they add a lot of funny and touching moments.
Every characters are well depicted except...

My only grief, spoiler alert, is with Hiwa-san. I feel like she is in this manga only to be the perfect girlfriend prospect for the widowed father. Seriously every time she appear I feel like the author is screaming in my ears "See they'll fall in love, she is perfect for him". It's so unnatural. It's like the author couldn't find a way to make a widower fall in love again.

This is a wonderful slice-of-life 4-koma about family life, growing up, coming to terms with grief, and more. It's consistently high-quality, and ends at exactly the right time.

Slice of life is a bit hit-and-miss for me - some stories are utterly devoid of conflict, or waste dozens of chapters without any plot progression. In contrast, this manga has a well-rounded overarching story arc, so the story progresses slowly but continuously.

I loved the comedy, the quirky cast, and the manga overall. My only criticism is that the plot focus of the final ten or so chapters is slightly detrimental to the comedy, and that some side characters lose out on screentime after a while.

Highly and universally recommended.

I really love this series. I'm a sucker for childcare and growing up series in general, but a lot of them are scared to touch upon darker and serious themes. Here, the husband and daughter are both struggling with the loss of his wife -- it isn't just an excuse to not have her in the story, but rather something that actually helps the characters grow and bond together. The story isn't depression porn, either, instead slotting more into melancholy when it is serious. It also doesn't overstay its welcome being serious, there are jokes galore and general happiness as well. There's actual character progression, too! People change and the things around them change. Where most series sit in amber afraid to commit, here the mangaka made bold choices like letting Michiru graduate kindergarten, even though a lot of the series' time was spent there.

I can appreciate a manga that both gives gravitas to the serious portions of life while maintaining levity and happiness as well. It is a balance most series struggle to hit.

Also section chief is great, I still think about his very last ending sign-off frequently.

Pretty Wholesome slice of life with lots of focus on side characters.. The older brother's gf vibes too much with him though which can both be good or bad...Huge gorilla and michiru dynamic is the best thing in this no questions asked

This is one of the best family mangas, I've read.The characters are quirky but not dysfunctional. And while there isn't a lot of action or drama, what there is is realistic and not there to push up ratings. The characters are nicely developed and they grow over the course of the series.

I find this manga interesting. Mainly because i love slice of life with family feels, but this manga do much more than that.
This manga has, of course, comedies which i find not that funny except very few of them. Still, it's not bad comedies. This manga also has, of course, family feels between the main protagonists AND we can suspect this family feels will develop to (at least) one new character. This manga has this warm and serious side that pop out rather unexpectedly yet quite frequently. And then, this manga also has quite an amount of romance.
Well, i personally like this manga Michiru is cute, her dad is being a young father and her uncle is seems more like a brother than an uncle.

As the name implies, this isn't just about the daughter, but also about the lives (and loves) of the two brothers. So far it has taken a pretty sequential focus (younger brother first, and the older next) and it remains to be seen whether the ongoing relationships will furnish as much material as the developing ones (since gags for developing relationships are usually easier fruit to reach), but I'm hopeful.

Maybe it's because the natural comparison is to the timeless classic Yotsubato! but I find this series to be only "so-so" as of the latest scanlated chapter. The kid is a bit too mean-spirited and precocious for my tastes, the dad is plain and has nothing particularly interesting about him, the jokes aren't that funny and the slice-of-life aspect is too disjointed to have much strength. I do like the uncle a bit, but he can't carry the entire story on his own.

Still, imo it's not a complete waste of time, because the premise is pretty unusual. I don't think I've ever seen another series with a non-incestuous uncle-niece bond as its central relationship. So I'll keep reading for now, and update this comment provided my views change (for better or for worse) in the future.

Edit: Dropped it, but for no particular reason. It continued in the same fashion as always, but I think there are much more interesting slice-of-life manga out there that I could be spending my time on. Still, if you like tomboyish and precocious little girls then I think you'll enjoy this.

A very boring manga with an unlikable brat and two dull adults as main characters. It's kinda similar to yotsubato and I didn't like that one either. I guess I just don't like this type of manga in the first place, but the characters are truly insipid, they have no spirit and I truly don't feel like they're interesting, the relationship also isn't harmonious. The comedy falls completely flat and I didn't get a single laugh out of reading this. To me, it's garbage, but maybe people who love this type of stuff and are interested in family settings would like it more.

The reason I even started reading this was because the little girl was supposed to be precocious and I thought that could be fun with a rude brat, but it wasn't, the story and jokes are just too bad.
