well you can see it like that but what if in the black out he killed everybody and with his revenge accomplished just started again, of course that implies the death of the gang whore and the kid. im basing this since with the manga you have an open ending, and in the movie you have 2 endings one when it happens as you say with everything forgotten and in the past the "Good ending" that we didn't like, and the one in with number 13 won over the body and mass murdered everybody the "Bad ending" that we love.

Not to mention, the way Akai and his wife eventually escaped death was just bizarre -- and severely anticlimactic. The implication that Juuzou somehow avoided punishment for his crimes even with eye-witness evidence being present against him was also illogical. It would have been much smarter for the author to not have included that final scene where he was completely surrounded by the police; if he'd escaped without them being any the wiser, the story might still have ended on a fairly good note.
