Description
(note: "giglio" means "lily" in Italian.)

A wounded soldier with a disturbed mind kidnaps the priest who tries to help him. He then has the brilliant idea of going AWOL with the priest. He's in the middle of the African desert in WWII, with supplies running low and his sanity (or is it his morality?) long gone. All that's left is pleasure and agony. And maybe, eventually, death.

This story is one of those things you remember forever. it's so beautiful and touching.
i kind of didn't like the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
part where he was castrated and all, like ew.

but the
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
part when he was first raped was funny-ish (pray? seriously?) and when he wanted dante after the rape (hate>love??)
was pretty good to.

I love this author's work, and this one was great as well, except...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The castration thing. Even as a girl, this is, oddly, a theme that really revulse me. (I guess I kinda feel for the guy, since one can, in a way, view women as "already castrated", or at least that's what some psychanalists might say, and sometimes (only sometimes!) I kinda get their point.) So empathy, sort of? Or whatever.

Anyway, I stopped right there, this theme really turns me off (appalls me is more like it actually), so that was it.

BUT, the first chapter was incredible, in a hot, twisted, sadistic kind of way. The way of Fusanosuke to explore the dephts of human perversions, restraints and sanity remains unparalleled, and so does her amazingly beautiful art. (The sex scenes, especially, are the best, imo, in yaoi.)
Careful though, for this is the opposite of a sweet loving romance.

This manga was sexy till the seme lost his reproductive Organs.

Still, awesome story and delicious art!

But if you are new to yaoi, you could be shocked in such a way that you would never read yaoi again.LOL

its passionate alright, like all these managaka's work its also very beautiful. The ending is twisted. it seems i'm the only one who didn't love the ending. i really wanted to wash my eyes with soap.
my reccomendation is read the first chapter only.

Contrary to a previous reader's comment, I think the "praying" scene portrayed one of extreme desperation to take hold of the smallest bit of restraint and sanity, to keep from unleashing or succumbing to forbidden lasciviousness he had long kept hidden. I found the scene to be highly emotional and heartbreaking. That's one thing about Fusanosuke-sensei's works that I'm absolutely gaga over - she tells amazing, intricate, multidimensional, thought-provoking stories that diverge from your mainstream yaoi. Dont get me wrong, I have my share of mainstream yaoi, however - i read Fusanosuke when I look for a work that exemplifies outstanding art in all its aspects including story-telling/meaning (in addition to yummy love scenes of course - though some of which, please note, can be controversial).

God the ending just left me in... wow... at least they stayed together? But I was highly disappointed with the whole castration thing, probably cause I'm one of those saps who like happy endings when it comes to yaoi. Shoujo I can go for some tragedy and stuff, but yaoi, I need fluffy, smexy stuff. And if it has tragedy in it, it better not be the ending.

love vs. desire?

Spoiler (highlight to view)
First thought that came to mind.. "They really didnt need to cut his penis off." I meaaaaaaan... Was that necessary? And the mangaka didn't even give an explanation. It was like she intended the readers to have the satisfaction of "leaving it at just that" or "conclude what happen yourselves". My point it, it's just saaaaad! How great could it be if they made love once again..this time without the priest "praying" (that was hilarious btw) Though they could ACTUALLY still "make love" to each other as long as he still reaches orgasm. The priest could massage his prostate lol. But it's via the anus and he's not the seme so nevermind? (-_-) Gahhh what an ending. Though I think that was the souldier's punishment for raping the priest. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE L-O-V-E! doesnt love forgive it all!!! And the priest even went back for him. I just cant understand why the mangaka ended it in such a drastic way. Putting my complaint aside though, I'n the end there was a picture of them and the quote .."Though the battle has ended, this love will never disappear" it was like implying that they forever lived a peaceful life together without the need for sexual pleasure. Which is hard to come by now a days so it was PURE looooove~ So alright, she gave us atleast something to be happy about. Giving that one of them became a monk I guess it was retribution for what they did and the happiness they seeked in return. It's like "just having you by my side is enough" kinda thing.

Well, I guess you could give this a try if you're looking for something dire and feel like you wanna read something where love heals all wounds (literally both physical and emotional). I'ma boost my rating up just because of the very last page. I am a sucker for quotes.

that was amaizing.
pretty art (same as per always with Inariya) : 10/10
good story : i like stories that takes place in a war context, it gives them more depth, and allow the author to describe better the human heart.
the ending was very good, though a bit sad. it was the first time i had read such a thing in a yaoi manga, but this is a thing that may happen during war, so that gives the story a realistic and tragic feeling.
At least maybe now orlando (the priest) will have his way with dante too (the soldier).
UKE POWAAA

And i agree with the others, i would have liked to see how their love developed, (how they were going to do it ^^), how they went on living when everything got back to normal.
at least we know that they're still together thx to the last peaceful picture.

question : am i the only one who thinks that the soldier was once the priest that raised orlando ? they really do look alike (both blond, with cute wrinkles round the mouth), the only thing is that in orlando's memories the priest was an adult, and Dante seemed to be still a man in his thirties.so yeah, the age issue doesn't really corroborate my assumptions ^^

If I had to chose one yaoi story, and only one, no doubt: it would be Giglio. Short, but with great impact. Beautiful balance of lust and love, sad but with hope. Hot, hot, hot, and at the same time endearing. Art and dialogue supreme. It stays with you.
